Dog walker jailed six months

SURREY, B.C. — Applause broke out in a Surrey courtroom Wednesday as a former dog walker who had six animals die of heat stroke in the back of her truck last year was led away to begin serving a six-month jail sentence.

Emma Maria Paulsen, 38, pleaded guilty in November to causing an animal to continue to be in distress and to public mischief for reporting an offence committed when it was not.

On May 13, 2014, Paulsen went shopping at Costco in Richmond and left six dogs in the back of her truck, which was covered by a canopy. When she returned to her truck after about 40 minutes, she found that the dogs, including her own animal, were dead.

Paulsen panicked and drove to Abbotsford, where she dumped the dogs’ bodies in a ditch. She then concocted a story that she told to the dogs’ owners, police and the media.

Should be a lifetime ownership ban. As far as the jail term , people have done worse and got less. Not happy to say that

The story cannot be factual. She left the dogs inside a canopy for 40 minutes while in Costco? How long were they inside the canopy before she even got to Costco? Never mind the 40 min exaggeration. How can anyone get into and out of a Costco in 40 minutes?
This bycth should be made to try and spend 40 min inside her canopy in the summer on an asphalt parking lot to learn what she asked these animals to endure. Give her some medical monitoring and I would bet she would be asking to get out within 15 minutes.

i agree it was not enough, but it is a start , the guy that shot them dogs in whistler should have gotten jail time

Iam glad this women will see some jail time but I wonder the way our system works just how long she will actually spend in jail?? Second off the news says it was 18-19 degrees out that day that's not exactly hot so I wonder what the real temperature was ?
