Carbon Tax

Post by RTH »

Just received today Fortis gas bill for 33 days to April 13th.
Cost of gas has been reduced from April 1 from 3.78 per GJ to 2.48 per GJ. Thats a bonus.
Also calculated the Carbon Tax - this is $1.4898 per GJ.
So.... prior to the decrease the carbon tax was 39.4% of the cost of gas.
Post decrease the carbon tax is 60% of the cost of gas.
Add in other .4% for clean energy levy.
This is worse than taking an $800 airplane trip that cost $1350 after taxes.
I wrote our MLA a few months back and asked him to explain, justify the percentage. Also asked for info on consumption of natural gas in BC pre carbon tax and post carbon tax. We are actually consuming more now. Maybe thats economic growth, maybe its the colder winters. Or maybe the carbon tax is another way to redistribute wealth. I know I have not received any benefits from the revenue neutral carbon tax. This is a way for the BC government to have me pay more towards the social programs.
Any thoughts on this issue?

The carbon tax is a disaster from beginning to end and I believe most -people understand that.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes their way.
