Lest we forget Hobbyguy who was fully prepared to drive his truck and fifth wheel to join protests in the north against the Gateway Pipeline. The irony that half of his truck and 80% of his fifth wheel were made from petroleum products was not missed by many of us here. Never mind the fuel he would burn.
What remains incomprehensible to the Atoma's et al is that their version of "safe oil" would drive at least 1/3 if not more of the global population into poverty or absolute "have not's" as far as modern goods are concerned. Sure, we can make plastics without using fossil oil.....but to get to that break even price point would mean that all of the goods purchased that benefit from the polymers of fossil fuels would cost 3 times as much. And would we be using food producing land to to make those ingredients?
I would suggest that if an Atoma solution platform would ever find themselves in charge and implementing such a radical plan and it's consequences, the riots in the streets would make any public uprising in the history of mankind pale in comparison.

Who could afford a car under such a vision? Or how about some simpler things in life like a shingled roof that does not cost 20k, carpet or lino? Tires made from natural rubber that would last 5000 miles and cost 1000 each. The couch you sit on, the refrigerator or freezer to preserve your food from spoiling, or the cheap computer and keyboard you use to promote a cause or action while in total la la land as to the consequences.
Sometimes it is really hard to distinguish between unintelligent and naive.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard.
