And as soon as someone steps up to the plate and says they are going to build a refinery....anywhere in Canada.....you, the FN's, and every other tree hugger out there will be fighting against it. It's called forked tongue. Give us a break. You agenda is clear. lol your wrong because everytime a refinery has been talked about, there has been very little nay sayers except the americans and canadians in bed with dirty big oil. btw did suncor have another mishap today ?

I truly hope that as has been said in answer to earlier statements that I made, that there is the people and money out there to build at least one oil refinery. I would prefer it/them to be built at or near the extraction site. I had also heard about this going on but am not holding my breath.

I also believe that done right pipelines are the way to go. However if the companies involved keep screwing up and shooting themselves in the foot it is going to be a long battle.

http://edmonton.ctvnews.ca/nexen-energy ... -1.2539370

Alberta’s energy regulator has ordered Nexen Energy to immediately suspend operations of 95 pipelines in northern Alberta – for what it calls non-compliance surrounding pipeline maintenance and monitoring in its Long Lake oilsands project.
According to Nexen, in July about 5 million litres of fluid – a combination of bitumen, water produced by the extraction process and sand – was leaked into an area about 16,000 square metres in size.
“Nexen has been unable to demonstrate that it actually has done the required monitoring and testing,” said Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) spokesman Bob Curran.
According to AER, the lines shut down by the order carry several products including crude oil, natural gas, salt water and emulsion.
Nexen said in a statement that “on Tuesday, August 25, Nexen voluntarily self-disclosed all non-compliances to the AER, along with a schedule for an action plan” and that “Nexen considers regulatory compliance to be of the utmost importance in our operations…a top priority is the safety of our employees, the public and the environment.”

Why can't these companies follow the regulations if they want to work in our country. They self-disclosed non-compliance, in other words they knew they weren't complying. They do this and then expect everyone to overlook it when they want a new project. Do they figure admitting it and saying they will clean up their act makes it all right. Why did they not do it right in the first place. Sounds like a repeat of the Mount Polley disaster on a different stage. There needs to be some "huge" fines to get these companies back on track before there is a real disaster with loss of lives etc..

I want to see the jobs, the production, the exports as bad as anyone, but as Steven said :

I believe that if this is worth doing it must still be worth doing right and not just in some manner where companies can look to simply maximizing profit (and sue Canadian taxpayers if we try to interfere by imposing environmental regulations).
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

This post is an absolute classic example of the clueless. Sure, let's look at Venezuela. And by your own admission, not the best economy or living conditions. Have you ever wondered why that is?
If your desire is gasoline for 16 cents a litre but as a tradeoff you want to stand in a line up for hours to buy toilet paper and a loaf of bread....when they might be available....why don't you just move there? I'll even come over and help you pack.
If you could ask any of the 30 million Venezuelans standing in line for toilet paper if they would trade places with you, in this chitty, disgusting, conservative led, free trade country.......they would say yes and I will pay you what you want to make it true.[/quote]

Canada UNDER any Conservative regime has ALWAYS bowed down (or bent over.....maybe easier for you to understand) to the U.S. Free Trade you say........mostly a one way street in many situations.

You have a lot to learn but obviously your father voted Conservative so........

Wow. That sounds like something a FN person would be promoting. It's not wrong, just very typical. Personally, I do not bow down, or in your colloquial words, bend over for any one.
And for the record, I do not, or ever have called any socialist leaning party supporters dirt road buckers either. Grow up.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
