Why do you feel there is an obligation to create competition?

To maryjane ...
Since anyone in Canada can still start up a brewery if they wish to compete I do not see where the word "monopoly" applies.
There is presently an independent brewery in Lake Country making Big Surf Beer.

Re: Beer monopoly
I have never heard of a fixed price being set for beer, as it has been for farm products like eggs, milk etc.
Perhaps you should recheck your information ??

What? Big beer is no cheaper than smaller breweries. You have your cheap brands, mid brands and expensive brands, just like any other product. Last time I checked, local beers were no more expensive than some of the yucky big brews.
Nobody wants to hear your opinion. They just want to hear their own opinion coming out of your mouth.

I would argue that smaller breweries (Parallel 49, Oak & Iron, Main Street Brewing and Postmark, etc) all make very high quality products that can and do compete with "big beer" in quality and price.
Come quickly Jesus, we're barely holding on.

I certainly wouldn't be proud of that accomplishment. Worst beer I have ever tasted in my life.

To skydawg ...
Since the last beer I drank was over 10 years ago I have no idea what Big Surf tastes like. I understand that their objective was to sell on price alone and since they are still in business after a number of years of operation I assume that any number of people must like their beer ... or their price.

Must be price then. Or many people don't know what good beer tastes like.
