Are the controversial "Times of India" awards coming back to B.C.?

Remember when B.C. hosted the controversial, multi-million-dollar, taxpayer-funded Times of India Film Awards in 2013?

CKNW has learned the Times of India wants to return to BC “given the success of their past event” here.

While the province says it hasn’t made a decision about “directly partnering with the organization,” former arts and culture critic Spencer-Chandra Herbert says it should be a no-go.

“They spent $11 million dollars of B.C. taxpayer’s money, and then later had to admit they really didn’t see the creation of any new jobs, and that it was a bit of a bust. It was in the midst of the quick wins scandal and was really a pre-election strategy by the Minister and Christy Clark to try to use public money to win an election.”

The only utterly ridiculous thing is your assertion that this is even a story.

- an event announces it wants to come back to bc
- a FORMER CRITIC says she thinks its a bad idea
- the government hasn't even made a decision

and this is newsworthy how?? OMG A CRITIC SAID SOMETHING! Give me a break...

The only thing they reported is that a former critic had something to say. There's nothing in the article about any decisions by government. So all this story is is someone who USED to do something had an opinion. Big whoop.

Edit to add: They likely also 'reported it' because they knew there would be suckers who would infer things from the story that weren't really there.
