Okanagan Spirits vs. B.C.

Post by occasional thoughts »

Does anyone know what this is all about . . . ? Being an excerpt from an insert titled "Progress" in the Capital News from a week or two ago about a dispute between Okanagan Spirits and the provincial government:

"One of the government's conditions in the new distribution agreement was that Okanagan Spirits would have to destroy all of the products it had previously made -- including the Blackcurrent Liquer . . . . 'They were going to make us dump everything we'd made to date."

The article says at one point, "The government said, 'We didn't approve the growing sites, which means we didn't tell you that your B.C. product is a B.C. product'."

Regrettably, the story as written is rather incoherent, but it seems to be alluding to something that even for the provincial government is rather beyond the pale.

If only they'd made a "donation" at a Liberal party event. They'd have even gotten access to the Premier. This whole mess never would have happened.

But let this be a lesson to any business owner. You'd better let your cash indicate which side of the political fence you're on.

Cynical and sarcastic, but possibly true. I'd sure like to know the whole story, however.
