This forecast demand for power has not been proven. Power demand for residential and industry needs has been flat for a decade and it has not been proven to show a dramatic increase in years to come.
Thus, while 'providing needed power for generations to come', we are also committing 'generations to come' in paying for the damn dam while also burdening them with the ill-conceived IPPs - contracts which FORCE BC hydro to buy power at 3x market price and sell at a substantial loss. What will be the need, the rationale for continuing to buy IPP power once Site C is online? And don't try to tell me that these contracts can be cancelled at the drop of a hat without massive lawsuits and compensation that will further burden 'generations to come'.
While some celebrate the JOBS! JOBS! JOBS! the dam construction will provide, these JOBS are short-term insofar as individual workers are concerned. More jobs, over a longer term, perhaps not necessarily full-time, would be provided by existing dam upgrades, infrastructure improvements to river flow and would have less impact environmentally.
The Christy Joan Clark dam (Site C) is a politically motivated project - the BCUC was bypassed BECAUSE the powers-that-be knew that BCUC would not lend their approval to Site C.
...for me it's about providing needed power for generations to come.

this says everything that needs to be said about how useful modern democratic process and voting is. and yet we go to countries and force this same corrupt system of western democracy on them......

is that truly a fair comment considering you would never waiver and vote NDP? there is no viable 3rd party or alternative. therefore you are on cruise control when it comes to your vote - arent you?

is that fair to say? the strength of BC is a result of the crumbling of other resource powerhouses in canada. if all things were equal - our weaknesses and this government would show how inept they are just like in the past. how strong can a province be - if people work away from home when there are better paying jobs outside of province? those jobs are gone and now we have those workers working for much less at home. so who exactly is the economy in BC really good for? the worker? or businesses that can exploit a long built culture of low wages?

why tell the truth when people sit on the fence and vote conveniently afraid of strawmen from 20 years ago. im sure if christies legal political sins from years ago can be forgiven - the NDPs can.

he is such a nothing that no one ever targeted his riding, while the idiot NDP went after Clark and focused on her riding, while completely forgetting about the rest of the province and blowing a huge lead in the polls. Just plain dumb, but that's the NDP. So dumb, and so unelectable.
