Former Kamloops RCMP officer charged with selling cocaine
A former Kamloops mountie has found herself on the wrong side of the law.
Randi Love, who worked out of the Kamloops RCMP detachment, is facing several drug-trafficking charges.

It will be interesting to see what kind of story the defence will tell about this one.

The media reports state that she committed these offenses while she was a fully paid, serving member of the Force. Her defense council can come up with any story the like, but if the facts support the allegations/charges, I can't imagine what excuse would really hold water. At the time she was neither young nor inexperienced. No doubt she will pull the old stress and PTSD rabbit out of the hat in an attempt to mitigate the seriousness of her charges. Of course that is all BS in the first degree! There are countless police officers in the RCMP, Provincial and Municipal Police forces across this country who suffer from the high stress of the job and who struggle with the PTSD demons from cumulative exposure to horrific sights and sounds. None, or at least an insignificantly small number of them, choose to commit serious crimes such as this Constable is alleged to have committed. If these charges are proven, I think they are dealing with a person with a very serious character flaw; and, it is most unfortunate that the applicant screening process didn't weed out an applicant such as this in the first instance. The recent announcement by the RCMP that they are further relaxing the applicant process is likely to result in more problem people being hired, only to disappoint and embarrass in the future. If convicted, this person deserves some significant jail time.

yes for some reason they believe the act of not being a cop is a punishment in its self.and true jail time is never used because crown counsel and the cops are in bed together

You don't remember any who got jail. You can't be expected to remember everything of course, but you are wrong about none going to jail. For example, here in the South Okanagan, around the mid 1990's, a male officer from Penticton/Summerland was charged with drug offences, with respect to pot, and he got sent off to the slam for his crimes. I don't remember exactly what amount of time he got, but it was significant considering he had no criminal record prior to that offense. Of course, he also lost his job at the same time. There have been others I assure you. This woman is very likely to get jail time for her crimes, and well she should.

This cop played the PTSD card to avoid jail time for his cocain habit..

Of course, you are quite right in the case of this officer from Merritt. Maybe... just maybe if you were privy to all of the circumstances and the record of service of the member involved, you might not disagree with the sentence of the court. When one considers the numbers of cases where some very light sentences are handed out to people who have made no contribution whatsoever to society, sometimes the courts do take into consideration significant contributions by others in deciding on the sentence.

The good thing is they have been catching and prosecuting the few who are rotten. It is the courts and lawyers who decide what the sentence will be and when we don't think the sentences fit the crime, it is not the police that ought to be the brunt of our criticism.... rather the courts.
