James McIntyre killed by RCMP

Post by A_Britishcolumbian »

Anonymous is a shadowy, loosely knit collective known for its online activism targeting governments, corporations and religious groups around the world on prominent social justice issues.

The group made headlines last month after one of its alleged members was shot and killed by police in Dawson Creek, in northern British Columbia.

Reacting to the shooting, Anonymous threatened to temporarily shut down police websites and release hacked government documents related to the overseas communication capabilities of Canada's spy agency.

The RCMP national site and the website for Dawson Creek both went down briefly after the threat. Mounties later said it was a maintenance issue.

The group threatened to go public with more "stunning secrets" unless the government named and charged the RCMP officers involved in the shooting of James McIntyre, 48. B.C.'s police watchdog is investigating the shooting.

Bystander video revealed McIntyre was wearing Anonymous' trademark Guy Fawkes mask. Fawkes was the most well-known member of a plot to blow up the British Parliament in 1605.

B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) continues to investigate whether the RCMP member was justified in shooting McIntyre, a 48-year-old Métis man who investigators say was wearing a mask and refused to drop a knife.

Wanda McIntyre said she didn't know what kind of mask police found on her brother, or whether he was involved in online activism.

Wanda said James took care of recyclables before the casino had a system in place. He would recycle plastics, milk jugs, bottles and cans at bins outside a nearby Walmart, she said.

That environmental streak extended to Site C, which McIntyre talked about regularly with his mother. The dam will flood around 83 kilometres of the Peace River valley and displace a several dozen land owners.

"I don't know why he got involved with that Site C dam," Veronica McIntyre said. "He was concerned about that. I guess it was just the environment, and he felt for the people there. (That's) why he voiced his opinion."

Both still struggle to understand why James donned a mask and came into contact with police July 16.

"He didn't really like masks," Wanda said. "Maybe that's one of the reasons he didn't pursue his welding (career), just that claustrophobia of having something on your face."

"I know that he had a mask that I ordered for him," she added—a Phantom of the Opera costume for the company Halloween party. "That's the only mask I knew he had."

The Independent Investigations Office spokeswoman Kellie Kilpatrick said the shooting happened at an open house sponsored by B.C. Hydro for the Site C dam project on Thursday evening.

RCMP said around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a man was disrupting the event and allegedly damaging property in the 500-block of Highway 2.

Police said when they arrived, they found a masked man outside the venue who was thought to be connected to the complaint.

RCMP said in a statement that efforts to de-escalate the situation were unsuccessful and the man was shot during a confrontation.

The man was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries.

Unmasked: The face of Anonymous activist shot dead by RCMP

One year after a masked man linked to Anonymous was shot dead by RCMP in northeastern B.C., a relative wants to reveal the true face of James McIntyre.

McIntyre, 48, was killed on a sidewalk by officers responding to a call about a disturbance at an open house for BC Hydro's controversial Site C dam project in Dawson Creek on July 16, 2015.

"Jim didn't deserve to die in a brutal manner," said McIntyre's cousin, Keith LaRiviere, Sr. "The man lying on the ground was not a criminal. He was a victim of police violence."

Initial reports to BC's police watchdog alleged McIntyre was shot after a man with a knife "approached officers in an aggressive manner" outside a Site C open house in Dawson Creek on July 16, 2015.

Witness Mike Irmen said the man who was shot was wearing a mask, similar to the Guy Fawkes mask often used by Anonymous and refused to throw away his knife, even as he lay bleeding.

We know of cell video of shortly after the shooting but i wonder, did James record the incident? was james holding a cell phone at the time he was shot? there was no periscope or facebook live last year, and it does not appear that james live streamed his final moments.

we know from the inquest and the iio report that greg matters was on his cell phone when he was shot, but the rcmp members that engaged him did not report seeing him talking on it or holding it, even though they knew he was talking to a member on it for the preceding half hour. they do claim they saw him holding an axe/hatchet though, for a few seconds at least.
I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

Here is a report that includes Mike Irmen the man that shot the cellphone video of the aftermath.

what stands out in all these cases is the speed the cops go from talking to shooting .there is no trying to get them alive any more. now it is even if your jaywalking you could end up shot dead by a cop .
