$56M in; $15B out. That's Some Pretty Nice Coin!

Post by OldIslander »

From David Ball's article in Toronto Metro:

A British Columbia watchdog has published an e-book identifying a group of top industry donors to the B.C. Liberals who donated $56 million to the party over 12 years — and raked in many times that in contracts, at least $15 billion of taxpayers’ money.

This publication looks like a Green site, so take that into consideration. But still an interesting piece -- I'll bet we're going to hear more about this.

From the link posted above:

Pork barreling is in essence what the government can do for donors to its political party,” he told Metro in a phone interview. “A whole bunch of industries gave exceptional donations to the B.C. Liberals, and got exceptional returns.
“It’s become very clear — when you start looking at all the sweetheart deals, the tally of supplier payments and infrastructure projects — that this is beyond coincidence; this is pork barreling. It’s the government taking care of its friends.”

The BC Liberal Government has setup a system of "legalized bribery" in this province!

"Coming just days after a Forum Research poll found that seven-in-ten British Columbians want to ban corporate and union donations, the allegations add fuel to longstanding criticism of what Democracy Watch co-founder Duff Conacher told Metro “amounts to a system of legalized bribery” in a province that’s “one of the worst, one of the most undemocratic and unethical political donation systems of anywhere in Canada.”

Be happy. Your beloved NDP did the exact same things, only for projects that had no end value.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.
