Crickets from NDP and Horgan on portables

OUR VIEW: Big portable promises enticed Surrey votes – so what’s the plan?

Before the election, the NDP talked a big game about ridding Surrey of school portables. Now we hear nothing but crickets.

Portables, portables and more portables.

Surrey simply has too many – and the number has gone up to about 325 this year as growth continues to surpass the district’s capacity.

Portables in Surrey were a hot topic in the lead-up to May’s provincial election.

Along the campaign trail, then-candidate John Horgan vowed that if elected, his New Democratic Party would eliminate portables in Surrey.

The Now-Leader attempted to speak to Horgan about his plans before school begins in September, leaving several messages for his communications representative last week and early this week.

Calls went unreturned and the inquiry was bumped to the education ministry.

“Sorry, the minister is not available to talk today.”

How about just for five minutes over the phone?

Nope.

Surely, either the premier or education minister can spare a few moments to update Surrey constituents on the firm commitment they made?

After all, that committment surely had a role to play in the NDP’s election victory.

As of presstime Thursday, seven days after our initial enquiry, we still hadn’t heard from the newly-elected government about this important issue in Surrey.

Nothing.

Crickets.

Not even an email.

When all you do is make unrealistic jargon promises and then realise you can't really do anything to fix it you receive the NDP.

Johns like a groundhog, comes out for some camera flashes and then sees his shadow and hides for a couple weeks till the next camera comes out.

Not actually gut schools for starters.

Much like the BCTF attempts, just yelling lies again and again doesn't make them a truth.

Horgan is way out of his element. He has no idea what he's doing. When it comes to decision making, he has an empty tool box. That's why, when he's faced with actually making a decision on what to do about these portables, he's zipper-lipped. It was way easier for him when all he had to do was yap off with "Christy Clark, blah, blah, blah, Christy Clark, blah, blah, blah, Christy Clark, blah, blah, blah......"

People are demanding action on the portable issue, but it isn't going to happen. Since Horgan is using the 1990s NDP how-to book, which got nothing accomplished during its first roll-out, we're seeing the same results today: nothing accomplished. Horgan and the NDP have to go away, now.

Now they have backed away from another fantasy promise of $15.00 minimum wage.

Promises the moon, delivers nothing. And the faithful still cheer. ridiculous.

16 years to make up a plan and nothing. And I thought I was a procrastinator. I am the best planner in the world in comparison. If I ever feel down in the dumps I can look in a mirror and say "At least I'm not as bad as Horgan the Horrible and his ilk".
I feel better already.

You make promises before you know how you can keep them?

Hey, he's had years to come up with a plan. That's what we were paying his party for, all this time.

How come we're not hearing about that plan? My guess is, he's got nothin'. Too busy with blame and shame to do any of the heavy lifting.

Not as easy as upping the disability payments, where it was just a matter of throwing money at it since the province's finances were left in such good shape. Nope, this one's gonna take some actual work.

So, how long are you gonna give him to tell us how the NDP are gonna fix the problem????!!!!!!!!

How about just replying to their email? No need to implement just show a basic plan.
