The chief of a Chilliwack First Nation is applauding a local hockey team for retiring an "inappropriate" mascot — but say it's disappointing that it took so long to remove it.

Absolutely nothing wrong with their mascot. Some people need to get a life.

"Racist" - "inappropriate" - give it a rest.

Guess showing a German wearing lederhosen is "racist" too. Good grief - too many snowflakes.

The only reason it's racist is because you make it racist Chief.

I think it's all in how it's used, in this case it's not racist. They picked a chief for a mascot for a good reason, otherwise they would have gone with Minnie Mouse.

If it were used to sell liquor, Yes that would be racist.

The next step to reconciliation, is taking non-native children away from their families and putting them in native communities. I think this would probably end up with full assimilation if we did this.

Chief Wannawin is actually quite creative and funny. He looks cuddly too.

Maybe all the games teams need to adopt names more suitable
to the times.

The Dew-Drops
Light Loafers.

My favorite "The Scathing Glare Touchy Feely Football Club"

Don't forget - if one team starts to win, give the other team an equal amount of points so they can all be whiners, I mean winners.

I totally get how the emblem for the team in this case is offensive. "Killam Indians" And I sort of get how the Tomahawk Chop was offensive. But Chief Iwannawin is fairly benign.

Nah, they don't just want money. Seems like they've been starving for attention as well lately.

I think it's time to retire mascots like that. I'm just waiting to see what will happen with the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Braves, and even the Chicago Blackhawks logos (although the Blackhawks logo is quite dignified, I'm sure someone will take offence to it).
