Re: Trans mountain installs anti spawning mats
^^You are assuming too much. The project has NOT been totally approved and NEB is of the opinion that placing anti-spawning mats are not within KM's right to carry out at this point in time. WHEN KM gets carte blanc to proceed they can THEN perhaps put down anti-spawning mats - or carry out construction when the stream bed is cleared of spawning/fingerlings.

Is it a case of hating one side of an issue so much that it blinds one to the obvious, or is it just plain old lack of understanding?
theres zero reason to mess with spawning fish .none zilch nada. it goes to show the lack of knowledge or decency in this company or anyone that enables these fools . they seem to see themselves above the laws of the land and if the neb want to remain relevant they better put a end to it

SALMON IN THE RIVERS
Salmon Stewards face off against a Rockslide
Salmon stewardship is woven into the culture of First Nations from a history that goes back thousands of years. It’s seen as a sacred responsibility, reflected in stories that are passed from one generation to the next.
The Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) people, for example, share a cautionary story about what happens when proper respect isn’t shown toward the gift of salmon.
Thanks to the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, who permitted us to reprint the story, you can read what happens at the salmon feast. Just scroll to the bottom of the page.
The story’s message – that salmon must be treated with care – came head to head with a rockslide in the Seymour River in December 2014. The slide cut off about 90% of the Coho salmon that travel the river. Without a way to swim to their spawning grounds the salmon stock unique to the Seymour River would be wiped out.
Thinking back on it, Councillor Chris Lewis of the Squamish Nation sees what happened next as the power of salmon to bring people together.
The Seymour Salmonid Society runs the hatchery on the Seymour River, constantly monitoring the health of the nearby salmon runs. When the rockslide happened the society quickly rang the alarm. It didn’t take long to realize that the work to remove the rocks would take years not months – time the salmon didn’t have.

I'm not arguing that the maps were premature. Off topic

Prevent from having a pipeline on top of them. You see when you out a heavy thing on something small, it could squish it. That would be bad for fish.
Now if the fish was somewhere else, it would not get squished.
I suggest googling things like mass and gravity.

And I suggest that you read the approval conditions. If KM can't meet those conditions, they have no right to be continuing construction (such as preventing fish from spawning) on a project that will obviously never see the light of day anyway.

The typical disturbed stretch of river is 75 ft wide when crossing with a pipeline. Place a mat on the bottom, and the salmon will move upstream s to spawn. Therefore, by putting down the mat, those developing eggs will not be disturbed/destroyed.
Note that idea for the bed mats came from a biologist.
By the way, one of my favorite fishing spots on the Coquihalla river was just above the pipeline crossing. The pipeline had been routed so that it did not disturb primary beds. Pipeline crossing are usually in narrow parts of the river - where the current is too fast for good spawning beds. That was the case there.
The middle path - everything in moderation, and everything in its time and order.

Already, they’re proving to be working incredibly well. At Swift Creek it’s working beautifully, just as we had hoped, with fishes continuing to spawn elsewhere within the channel.

ffish should have to be prevented from spawning. the pipe should be diverted and the fact they did it without permmission isnt defendable

that is a bad comment about clark.I did not like her but you go overboard about her. Fish are fish , how do you know more then the experts.

So you want the fish to be prevented from spawning now?
