BC Government changing hunting
Wildfires changes hunting
The Province is taking action to protect big game wildlife in areas severely affected by wildfires this summer.
To address the increased vulnerability of wildlife to hunters, two motor vehicle restrictions are being implemented under the Wildlife Act.
First, within the area of the Elephant Hill fire in the Thompson Region, the use of ATVs for the purpose of licensed hunting is prohibited from Sept. 1 to Dec. 10, 2017.
Second, the use of all motor vehicles for the purpose of licensed hunting is prohibited within the Chilcotin Plateau and Hanceville-Riske Creek fires, except designated highways and mainline forestry roads, also from Sept. 1 to Dec. 10, 2017.
The restrictions are expected to be in place until access and visibility conditions return to a state where wildlife are less vulnerable. These new restrictions do not apply to First Nations exercising Aboriginal rights to hunt.
The restrictions are immediate and government will monitor their effectiveness.

Glad to see the present government concerns with wildlife restoration. Kudos NDP/Greens!!

As if any other government wouldn't have done the same. Take note:
two motor vehicle restrictions are being implemented under the Wildlife Act.

^^Did it change in 2003? Banning hunting in Okanagan Mountain and surrounds? I didn't hear of it.

Bighorn sheep were introduced following the improvement of habitat from the wildfire of 2003.

Just saying it's not the current political party driving what's being done - but feel free to feel that.

Seriously if you really think the current government is responsibly for any changes happening now means there's instantaneous changes happening every second. Nah, I don't buy it.

Past fires have influenced any current decisions. Past governments at every level have been up front and center at every fire that has affected so many. Thank every level of government and every single party as the current decision isn't just pointed at one particular one.

The BC Liberals had the worst environmental record in history.

There's been no ban on hunting. This is a vehicular access restriction. The areas are still open to hunting.
