It's scary and not just in BC but everywhere!
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?

They need to confiscate their phones immediately for 24 hours similar to a 24 hours roadside suspension. They might get it if there are immediate consequences.

Should be the same as drunk driving and impound the car as well as the phone. Second offense lose both permanently.

The penalties are fine the way they are. What we really need is more enforcement.

People use their phones because they're confident they won't get caught. Not because the penalty for getting caught isn't stiff enough.

Very large segment of population are addicted to their smartphones, combination of much more enforcement & steeper fines.
Maybe it would teach these idiots to put the damn phones away, or purchase bluetooth.
I don't give a damn whether people/posters like me or dislike me, I'm not on earth to win any popularity contests.

What about the woman in Vancouver who has 8 tickets? It's not slowing her down.

How many times has she not been caught?

I can only hope that if she hurts/kills someone that it is only herself.

I installed a dash cam because there are so many of these types these days.

My suspicion is if this doesn't get resolved, the time will come when simply turning the key in the ignition will disable the phone, and frankly I have no problem with that.

I think,on the second offence the person should be made to immediately drive over their phone with their car. I'll bet it would not be repeated too many times and they would stop.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything, they just make the most of everything that comes their way.

I think for a second offence, on top of the fine, you should have to do re-do the written portion of the driving test. You have "X" amount of time and you must pass it or you cannot drive until such a time you can pass. Time is more important than money to a lot of people, might be a bigger deterrent.
perhaps the straight and narrow would be wider if more people used it

More Enforcement? Have you not read the article? The cops are everywhere doing this and they can't keep up. The penalty is simply not enough of a worry for people.

They need to raise the cost of a ticket substantially to make it cost effective also and use as many cops they can till those infractions become become difficult to come by.
The police presence alone will have an impact on other crimes , it doesn't take Columbo to spot these people.
