Look, I suspect this ship was purchased as it is a way quicker turn around than designing, tendering and building one here in BC. I also suspect the winning builder would be suspect as the lefties would have suspected they paid off the liberals, regardless the fact union members in all likely hood would be building it.
Purchasing a ship to provide a service during a short season and having it re-fit here is a good use of our tax dollars. Do it all here from scratch and the cost would likely be triple. Bad use of our tax dollars. There goes that bad word called " math" again....
What is unknown is likely the Greek safety rules and regs are different than ours and I suspect there could very well be some surprises once the re-fit gets under way.
The run from Port Hardy to Bella Coola and perhaps Ocean Falls and Bella Bella can have some nasty sea states in the top end of Georgia Straight. The higher bow on this looks better to handle the sea than the older boats in the fleet. Regardless could be beam seas all the way across, hope they have a good number of barf-bags.

So then how about you taking on the challenge to answer your own question and find a suitable boat, in BC, and tell us what it would cost to be better than the ferry choice that was made.
