Re: Killing beavers for a dam
My last sentence got hacked - I deleted and reposted it below. It's suppose to say L O O N S. When I go to edit, it says the right word. I'm reporting it FYI.

Neither do I.
There have been numerous documentaries on beavers and the good they do for the ecosystem. You should watch one sometime.

Yes, even at the Mt. St. Helen's interpretation center the nature video mentions how when beavers moved back in the wetlands were reestablished by their dams.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Okay, well let's just ressurrect the beaver felt hat for fashion again. Send all the beaver meat to The Green Barbarian's house.
Wait, Alan has a cooking channel for the single male right here on castanet, between him, GB, Even Steven and LordEd there, they can divide up the beaver meat and have a cook-off for the best prize for the best recipe.

Re: Killing beavers for a dam
I didn't see anything in the news article that told what the man-made earthen dam serviced. Is it for irrigation purposes or drinking water, or what? There must be another solution to this problem other than killing the beaver family. The conservation people keep telling us that they've exhausted all options to wildlife culls, but I find that hard to believe in most cases.

Oddly enough, you're right. Maybe the beavers can be taken off Pender Island and relocated on Vancouver Island? It's a huge island, I mean, come on!

They've been trying to deal with it for a year. I wouldn't be surprised if the dam lets go to hear the residents of the community complain about the water mess.

Beaver documentary? Sounds exciting. Is it starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson?

Re: Killing beavers for a dam
Relocating beavers to a suitable habitat almost guarantees there would be resident beavers already there. The probability of ending up with a dead beaver is pretty high.

Re: Killing beavers for a dam
How did beavers get to Pender Island in the first place? Native there? Swim across the channel? Introduced? And if so, what for?
No.

Too bad. The Rock would make a good beaver character. May be then people would actually care about beavers.

Who says no one cares about beavers? The good people on Pender Island caused the Parks board to stall the beaver kill for a week.

Of course people care - there are trappers, roads named after them, businesses named after them, lakes and resorts - the list goes on.
