As. Far as the cf drug if you research you will see it doesnt work in 70 percent of people and the company that makes it has made cheaper deals with other countries but refuses to budge with canada . In that case it is the drug company holding those people hostage

NDP reject potentially lifesaving drug: https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/british-columbia/bc-health-minister-dix-faces-a-drug-funding-dilemma/article37090571/

"There will be a rally this week on the steps of the B.C. legislature to advocate for public funding of a drug that is used to treat the deadly lung disease cystic fibrosis. The group is looking for a pressure point to get Health Minister Adrian Dix to override clinical decisions not to pay for the $250,000-a-year drug Orkambi."

SNIP

"Mr. Dix last week said he won't budge on Orkambi"

SNIP

"Mr. Dix maintained that his decision to list another expensive drug for a rare blood disease – Soliris – was based on clinical evidence. But taking that decision opened the door for others to argue: You helped those patients, why not us?"

"To defend his stand, Mr. Dix pointed to the trade-offs that such approvals require. If Orkambi is approved, the publicly funded provincial PharmaCare system will be paying close to $30-million a year for the drug, he said; that's money that could be used to offer relief to low-income earners who currently pay high deductibles for their medication under PharmaCare."

NOtT so simplistic, is it MJ??

Ah, so when the BC Libs shy away from funding an unproven "ransom" drug - BAD. When devious Dix and the NDP shy away from funding an unproven "ransom" drug - GOOD.

Got it. Pure partisanship hypocrisy.

Just another misguided attempt at liberal bashing from people who don't have a clue how the real world works, they prefer to live in la la land where everyone gets what they want and it's all free.

If you are finished discussing the topic I can lock it. :)

Not that I have much interest in the partisan pissing match, but Orkambi has not received federal approval at all. Soliris, on the other hand, has received federal approval. Both articles have made that clear. The NDP is correct in not approving a drug for public funding until it has been submitted and approved federally. That's the process under our current publicly-funded health system.
I'd like to change your mind, but I don't have a fresh diaper.
