An Indigenous man has been convicted of killing a cow moose near West Kelowna, outside of his traditional territory and outside of the general open hunting season.

Henry Sack, 54, was fined $1,500 on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty in Kelowna provincial court to killing a cow moose out of season near Jackpine Lake on Nov. 12, 2018.

Poaching is a huge problem and the fines not high enough. Another poacher was fined $4,000 and a 5 year hunting ban.

First Nation "POACHER" kills moose

Post by playhard2010 »

I am so tired of seeing news stories regarding wildlife being poached and the headline reading, "Hunter kills animal out of season" etc. They are not Hunters, this is blatant poaching, therfore, they are poachers, why does the media ALWAYS insist on lumping poachers in with legal law abiding hunters? Is it to put a bad spin on hunting? A poacher is a poacher is a poacher. A Hunter knows the regulations and is law abiding and respectful of the regs. Also I want to note.... There is no cow moose season in BC, this was 100% intentional and this poacher knew darn well that regardless of being in his territory or not, you cannot shoot a cow moose unless you get the 1 in a million chance of the lottery draw for that animal. This is sickening to read and know this is happening. A $1500 fine is pathetic, this poacher should be stripped of ALL hunting rights for atleast 10 years, if not life with fines upwards of 10k.

Sadly, this is likely one of several that were caught. Due to lack of penalty the poaching continues.

Did he get his hunting privileges taken away? If he was a none Indigenous he would have.

Create a massive brainwashing program to get half of society to believe your special and different.
Maybe we should see a formal apology on the main media, and acknowledge that there is a problem with in the group.
You know, like what is demanded of the rest of us on a daily bases. Lets talk true colors.
Do we really think that treating peoples differently, with different laws, rules, expectations is going to work out in the long run?
This is very sick, when special treatment gets so abused, but not new, not uncommon, happening far more than we know.
