Re: Victoria's sewage treatment
It just boggles my mind when someone can come on here and complain continuously about a spill that "Might" happen and might actually be of some huge consequence yet virtually ignore this topic and even deny it is any problem. The tide takes it all away LOL.

It's crazy to think anyone can complain about possibilities when this happens every day of the year. Ridiculous. Sorry but a second thread is not going to take away the irony.
More specifically, I blamed Victoria's raw sewage, which is pumped out to the Juan de Fuca Strait at a rate of 130 million litres per day. British Columbia's capital is one of the last major cities north of San Diego to dump all of its untreated waste (including pesticides, street runoff and pharmaceuticals) into the ocean. On Friday, the sewer's screening system failed, spilling three million extra litres of unfiltered crap into Ross Bay.

So you think Horgan should be involved in municipal decisions like Basran's interest in pocket housing the trustee issue on LGBT, Nanainmo's councellor affair?
Good grief!!

So that makes it alright or what? Is the provincial government not involved in environment? Why don't Horgan and crew jump on this one like they are the pipeline.
EDIT TO ADD:
Could it be that Horgan and Weaver get a lot of votes from the island?

Why would they 'jump on" something that started in 2016 and should be done by 2020? Maybe to get them to settle on a situation, but the project is merely bogged down in a detail that needs settled. By the city council. Or should the Provincial government get involved?
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Interesting the same contractor was awarded it back in 2014.

Why not?
After all *removed* Horgan's conduct on the pipeline, which is Federal jurisdiction, not provincial, yet here on the raw sewage disaster, all of a sudden she's using the "It's a City Council issue, not a Provincial Government issue" argument as a defense.
Seems to me the pollution of the environment, within BC, is a provincial matter, and far more fitting the province be engaged in that, than sticking their nose into what is solely federal jurisdiction.
Sort of comes off as a fair weather law abiding approach, where you follow guidelines as the mood strikes you.
The clock is ticking and 2020 is just around the corner, with a project of this magnitude, requiring some time to complete I would wager, so it's time to quit bickering and Git-R-Done.

Re: Victoria's sewage treatment
^^Why are you complaining that the present provincial government hasn't fixed the problem in the past 7 months when the previous provincial government left the problem 'unfixed' for their 16 years in power??

Re: Victoria's sewage treatment
Actually we are not complaining about "just" this government not getting it done, we are pointing out that the constant complaining "no" side has been silent about this disaster for decades. Why is it that you ignore an ongoing disaster that actually is continuously destroying our pristine waters and cry about something that "might" happen, who know when in the future. If it ever does happen the waters could already be destroyed by the disaster that is already happening right in front of your eyes. Oh so ironic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cactusflower a while ago in a thread, I'm not sure which one you mentioned the Salton Sea in California and the disaster it has become. You are right but you forgot to mention that one of the causes of this complete disaster was/is agricultural run off. In other words pesticides, fertilizers etc, some of the exact same things that are going into the waters off Vancouver Island along with many more toxic substances. Lucky it is a much larger body of water or it might already be the Canadian example of your much hated Salton Sea disaster. Does anyone truly believe that our provincial governments past and present should not be pushing for this to be corrected. In all honesty why are they pushing companies to clean up mine disasters or whatever and not pushing Vancouver Island to clean up it's act which is doing environmental damage on a much larger scale. Why are the environmental loonies not on top of this one especially since it is in the backyard of most of them. It's too bad that for our oceans sake the American money wouldn't flow this way to get you guys excited, but I guess there are no profits to be made so that will never happen.

Longstanding "NOOO" problem:
http://nationalpost.com/news/canada/vic ... or-decades
Trying to hang this on the present provincial government is really pretty silly, isn't it?
Victoria may — or may not — have a terrible sewage problem. Experts are divided whether the scenic B.C. capital and its surrounding suburbs should join the rest of North America and treat its sewage, rather than continue its practice of pushing the stuff into the ocean, raw and untreated. The debate has raged for decades, with myriad proposals and sites endorsed and then rejected; they include a controversial $780 million plan that crapped out two years ago.

P.S. Your link is three years old. Much has happened since. (I can't believe you dug through the Tyee so far to find this!)
I bet he used this newfangled addition you can buy for your computer called "google".......I heard it can "dig through" a website really far to find information. I don’t know if there is a google store in Kelowna yet but he might have gotten it elsewhere and brought it back here.

Re: Victoria's sewage treatment
Did you even bother to read my previous posts? We are not just blaming the current government. We, at least I am saying that it should have been fixed years ago. Everyone who has been in power is at fault. We are just asking why they and the people whining so much about an unlikely spill of unknown proportion which might never happen is so important when there is an ongoing disaster in those very same waters that could quite possibly end up worse than a petroleum spill "if " it ever happens.
