Don't see any reason to have him returned to Canada, so saying our Govt probably will
Heck of a lot of money he made.. doesn't sounds like it was worth the risk

I know I'd rather be broke and free, and not in a Philippine's prison.

This is the guy who likely set up the bacon killing in Kelowna. Hes the guy who walked away after. I hear phillipino prisons are lovely . Have a nice stay
Now they want to take our guns away . That would be just fine. Take em away from the criminals first . Ill gladly give u mine. "Charlie Daniels"

Oh, I'm sure Tru-dope will bring him back, meet him at the airport and give him a teary eyed hug, and hand him a big bag of cash because our government didn't do enough to help the poor miscreant.

I think I remember the Philippine Prez saying he would like to shoot drug dealers in the wee wee if they got caught drug dealing in his country. And to have his buddy trying to bring him back to a 4 star prison.... lol. Didn't think anyone was stupid enough to try, let alone get caught exporting drugs from a hard core nation. Make an example of him already. He belongs to a high level gang in Vancouver and you know he's gotten away with so much more. He's not worth any more words.
just sayin...

I want to officially thank this drug dealer for his amazing work is showcasing the extreme difference between "justice" in other countries versus our own.

Let me explain....

The BC Gang team stated: “While we cannot speak to the court decisions in another country, there is no doubt that the life sentence that was handed down is significant and will undoubtedly send a message to people from B.C. and Canada, that drug trafficking in other countries may, if you’re convicted, come with a serious penalty, including imprisonment for life,” Winpenny said. “In the case of Mr. Riach and Mr. Shirazi, we will continue to watch to see if there are further court proceedings or if this is the end.”

This is a glowing example of the current state of the laws in Canada when the gang cops are basically saying "if they did it here things would be different." So don't traffic drugs in other countries because penalties are WAY harsher...

Then the drug dealer's "friend" comes forward expecting the Canadian government to step in and help his poor drug dealer friend in getting back to Canada because of the "injustice" of this sentence:

“I sure hope that the government will step in now and do something for him. He didn’t run on his bail or anything. This is not right and would never have stood up in any kind of (Canadian) court,” Seymour said Wednesday, noting human rights abuses in the Philippines. “How could this happen to a Canadian citizen? I am totally sick to my stomach over this.”

This guy noted the HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES in his statement, clearly overlooking the devastation that the drugs this guy was selling were causing to other people.

So again let me state that whether you agree or disagree with the punishment over this crime, you have to see that even the drug dealers and criminals that are Canadians know that its far easier to deal with the courts in Canada and immediately are turning to the "gift" that is citizenship to save them when they are abroad instead of thinking of the horrible things they are doing to others.

I personally hope that Canada uses this guy as an example and leaves him and his buddy there.

I have always been troubled by this. Canadian or not, why does another Country play with the laws of another land? IF you wish to break the law in another country suck it up! You get the penalty they wish to give, be it life incarceration or loss of life.

That is not something our Government should be touching. Leave it alone and people might just learn to stay within the laws. We are just making Canada a haven for Criminals and a Gangland.

Riach facing life in prison
Rob Gibson - Mar 2, 2018 / 7:56 am |

An infamous Kelowna criminal involved with a targeted shooting which killed Jonathan Bacon in August 2011 is doing time in a Philippines prison.

Court documents from the Philippines and local media indicate James Riach has been sentenced to life in prison for drug smuggling.

Riach, 36-years-old was arrested back in January 2014 and accused of setting up a network to distribute drugs.

Court documents indicate Riach was connected to a Mexican drug cartel.

Police seized $2.5 million in cocaine, methamphetamine, and ecstasy from Riach’s condo.

Riach appealed the conviction but lost his appeal and has now been sentenced to life imprisonment with no possibility of extradition.

Canada does not have an Offender Transfer Treaty with the Philippines.

Riach belongs to the Independent Soldiers gang in B.C.
