Of course only stadium with enough seating capacity in BC is BC Place

flamingfingers wrote:FIFA stipulates 80,000 seating capacity. BC Place has seating capacity of only 54,500.

Do you think it is reasonable to expand BC Place 25,500 seats for maybe 3 games??
Or replace artificial turf laid down at a cost of $1.3 million a few short years ago and replace it with turf?
What about training facilities?
Fan zone costs of $1.2 million?
Security and policing costs? (Shades of 2011 Vancouver Stanley Cup Riot.)

For a lousy 3 games?

Please show me anywhere it state that size of stadium for Group Stage games.

It's hardly likely BC would host the 80,0000 games.

Still, pretty stiff cost associated with putting in the natural grass. Although people in BC would be employed for that.

Hm. I'd like to see a proper analysis of the costs. It's perturbing that FIFA isn't being more transparent. I think we all appreciate transparency and expect it when our resources are involved. (Although I guess some of us actually only expect transparency from certain parties, right?) Other cities are dropping out, so it's not just a localized concern.

From Wikipedia, but it's cited to the bidding process PDF

FIFA established minimum requirements for stadiums capacities.[29]

Matches Stadium capacities
Opening match 80,000
Remaining group stage matches 40,000
Round of 32 40,000
Round of 16 40,000
Quarterfinals 40,000
Semifinals 60,000
Third place play-off 40,000
Final 80,000

Knowing 2018 World Cup is 13 weeks away and only 1 stadium out of 12 being used seats 80,000.

1 with 67,000
1 with 48,000
7 with 45,000
1 with 42,000
1 with 35,000
none of which have been renovated to fit 80,000
What this tell me as oneh2obabe already posted a link about the 2 Semi-Final games & Cup Final game, are those games have huge seating capacity needed.
None of which would be played outside the US in 2026

Added later: World Cup teams prefer to play on natural turf, BC Place did change the turf to the closes artificial possible for FIFA Women's World Cup in 2015. Which is still used by the WhiteCaps

^As a Footnote
Hear is list of Canada's largest stadiums with the capacity:
1) Commonwealth Stadium, Edmonton, 56,302
2) Olympic Stadium, Montreal, 56,040 (expandable to 66,000)
3) BC Place, Vancouver, 54,320
4) Rogers Centre, Toronto, 53,506
5) McMahon Stadium, Calgary, 35,560
6) Investors Group Field, Winnipeg, 33,500
7) Mosaic Stadium 33,350 (expandable to 40,000)
8) BMO Field, Toronto, 30,991
9) Percival Molson Memorial Stadium, Montreal, 25,012
10) TD Place Stadium, Ottawa, 24,000

Canada does not have a 80,000 seat stadium

under this titles logic - does that mean that the liberals "shot down" LNG mana from heaven? and the robust surpluses? and so many jobs you had your phone ringing off the hook? after all - the ndp was only in opposition - so how could they possibly be responsible for the LNG debacle?

thats the problem here. the liberals are like soccer players. hooligans pretending to be gentlemen. while the ndp is gentlemen getting the chance to rule like the hooligans. or was it play rugby? oh well. all i know is that our leader and co leader were rugby players and not soccer players. that in and of itself is alright by me.

Maybe if you studied the game and understood the skills involved you wouldn't be bored. And FYI, it's not 22 people chasing the ball ... each team fields 11 players - 10 field players and 1 goalie who protects the 18-yard box. The goalie may join the outfield players in the attack - usually when a team is trailing during injury period and they need to attack in full force.
