Times are a changing
I remember when I was in the work force catching a flight to Alberta for work, now my son lives in Alberta and flys to Van for work, it was his choice to move stating his dollar goes so much further there. My daughter also chose to move out of province

Retired parents say they're better off financially in Alberta, too.

Perhaps location A and B are changing, but other than that, people have been moving around for work or commuting for eons.
That's hardly anything new. I can think back to the sixties and people were working in downtown Toronto, then embarked on a two hour or more drive home, so they'd spend four plus hours a day just commuting.
