Deputy speaker steps aside

This definitely needs a topic of its own. Perhaps the next headline will be: "Linda Reid leaves BC Liberals to join firm that hired Christy Clark".

Linda Reid has finally finished gorging herself at the public trough?
There must be some nasty clouds gathering around this parliamentary expenses scandal.

Clean all the little piggy's out of barn (of all political leanings) and let us start with a new batch who have some respect for the taxpayers money.

The better question would be why clutter the boards with another stupid topic? BTW, she resigned from "assistant" deputy speaker.
I also heard an "assisstant" custodian that changed the TP roll down the hall from her office has been hounded by Tyee reporters looking for a back door to information as well. He informed them that he just changed the paper and had nothing to do with the business the paper was engaged in.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

The B.C. Liberals say Linda Reid is giving up her position as assistant deputy Speaker and will be replaced by caucus member Joan Isaacs.

I didn't know there was such a thing as assistant deputy speaker in any legislature.

There are no stupid topics. You either participate in them or you don't. Or you wish you did before it got to page 25 and there is nothing original left to say.

The former Speaker of British Columbia's legislature who was in charge when it's alleged two senior officials filed inappropriate expenses has stepped down from her duties.

The B.C. Liberals say Linda Reid is giving up her position as assistant deputy Speaker and will be replaced by caucus member Joan Isaacs.

Speaker Darryl Plecas released a report last month that alleged the clerk of the house, Craig James, and its sergeant-at-arms, Gary Lenz, overspent on foreign trips and made inappropriate expense claims.

Good bye Linda Reid, I'm sure you had more than your fair share of government perks to last more our life times.
As WW3 develops, no one is going to be dissing the "preppers." What have you done?

Even if Linda Reid has acted in an ethical manner, it would not be possible for her to work with the Speaker given his recent accusations against the officers of the Legislature...and her.
It's possible to do all the right things and still get a bad result.

There are Assistant Deputy Ministers for every Ministry, and that's just one more thing that should be 'fixed' in the Ledge. No wonder our tax dollars are spread so thin. All these titles (entitlements?) cost money.

Schools have principals and vice-principals. Executives have personal assistants. Any position with a significant degree of responsibility has an assistant position. The assistant or "deputy" is able to step in and take over the leadership so things can continue in a smooth fashion if the Speaker or Minister needs to be absent for a period of time.

Assistant OR Deputy, not Assistant AND Deputy.

There are a lot of needs for each Ministry. One individual simply cannot be responsible for all of it. (Larger schools will have more than one vice-principal.) Large corporations have a hierarchy of responsibility as well. Deputy and Assistant-deputy minister positions are not elected. They report to the Minister, who is elected. We have a vast province with sometimes huge differences between urban and more rural areas. It take more than one or two people to handle things. The day-to-day work of running our province isn't actually done by the MLAs or Premier.
