But they have been disappearing over the past decade. There is less Union scum today compared to a decade ago. And likely to be even less after the next Harper budget. Kudo's to Harper in advance for that.

Unions come under many guises. In many instances they are referred to as 'professional associations' but their function is the same. To protect their members jobs, and get them the best pay and benefits possible. One good example is the medical association that your family physician is a member of. That group has been putting the screws to the taxpaying public for years, yet we rarely complain because, for the most part, we like our doctors and need the service they provide. But is a regular GP (not a specialist) really worth $450,000 a year, or a specialist in a small town really worth over a million?

So I would argue, that it's not just the members of the groups we normally think of when talking about unions that can be a bit greedy sometimes. Greed is a trait of almost ALL human beings, not just certain exclusive groups.
