There are two excellent theories for arguing with women.
Neither one works.

Here's a thought, why don't you ante up some cash for him, and cover the cost of however grandiose you figure this shindig should be.
Oh wait a minute, you were recently looking for help yourself. :purefury:

It looks like someone from Kelowna will get a 66$ medal.

See? To be super special, all ya gotta do is run a food bank.
How do they pick who is super special? I'm special. Somebody please nominate me. I want one of those things.

Wow, that comment is all class. With your attitude towards the good in our community, I really doubt your claim of being anything "special".
I don't know the woman, or have anything to do with the foodbank, but I'm not going to minimize anyone's contributions to help people in need. There is NO reason to abuse someone for receiving an award. The recipients of these awards did not sign the paperwork creating the award or authorizing the spending. Consider where you are placing the blame. These people bust their asses volunteering and making a difference. Its distrurbing of you to try to take away the slight, and probably only, recognition they will see.
Show some class, be proud that someone from our community is recognized for the contribution she has made to make Kelowna a better place for everyone.

I think the comment stems more from the fact that the person running the foodbank makes a hundred grand a year, a situation that many may not view as all that special given the remuneration.

Re: Harper spends 4M$ on the queen
There wasn't exactly overwhelming information giving on both castanet and CHBC of the reasons for the award. My assumption is that she does a bit more than "just run the food bank" and rake in her salary each year. I'd like more information. Honestly, it makes me feel a bit warm and fuzzy that "Kelowna" has received this award.
Has she created some type of new program, increased donations, does she donate her time in other ways above and beyond the call of duty? Obviously yes. These recipients were chosen through a nomination process. Someone thought she was doing something great. Don't take that away from Ms. Lavers, or any of the other recipients.
If you prefer to assume she received the award cause she shows up at work everyday, thats fine. I would like to assume better of our world.
Edit: A list of the people who received/will receive medals

Time to cut and run on that argument, G550.
It would be expected from a six figure salary that someone develop new programs and enhance program delivery methods. She's paid well to be an efficient, prudent manager.
Putting cans of beans in hampers just doesn't cut it for $100K a year.

Jo, please don't ban me. I was only 35.

One last thought, then I'll let it go:
The CEO of a larger corporation gets a bonus at the end of the year.
The executive director of the foodbank gets a medal and her name in the paper, and no respect for the community she serves.
Which job would you rather have?
