they aren't "going down" unless there is anyone else to replace them. Polls done 3 years in advance of an election are worth as much as a campaign promise to "balance the books" from Bob Rae. :dyinglaughing:
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

its funny how the government is stripping the fabric of the country and its people and yet they are impotent when it comes to dealing with banks and companies. we are all clear on who and what really runs this country. and its not the individuals who have a vote.

Exactly, and who do you replace them with? Be a cold day in hell before I give this country back to the Liberals, and I don't think the NDP has the same momentum since Jack Layton passed (not that I'd ever WANT "Taliban Jack" in power anyway!).
So I love the Okanagan but it's a place best enjoyed from atop a very large pile of $100 bills. - Spocky

The only democratic thing we as Canadians have is the right to vote in dictators into office. Once these clowns are voted in we have no say whatsoever. Our system is broken.

Re: Harper to working Canadians: SILENCE!
I voted for the present Government, but I am becoming increasingly concerned about some of the methods they have been using to ram their legislation through Pariliament. I use the word "ram" deliberately, because that is what they have been doing, as opposed to allowing adequate debate and "sober second thought" on many issues.
I know democracy can sometimes be a little "messy", and that dissenting voices and negative publicity can be a little disconcerting, but surely that's the price one must pay if one aspires to running the country.
NO one person, or group of people, or political party has ALL the answers right ALL of the time. So if the country is to be run well, its leaders must always be willing to LISTEN and to CONSIDER points of view different to their own, before making a final decision. That is the basis of good government.
The Conservatives have a majority, so they have nothing to fear by allowing those in opposition to have their say. And by allowing the Opposition to do its job properly (which is to oppose) a few things just might come to light that were overlooked when the legislation was first drafted. There certainly is absolutely NO need for the Government to try to silence all dissenting opinions, and ramrod things through as quickly as possible. I see absolutely NO upside to that kind of approach, but LOTS of potential downside.
This latest attempt to silence dissent (as per the article posted by the OP) is just another example of what I'm talking about. The Conservatives appear to have an irrational fear of negative public opinion, and therefore feel the need to silence all dissenting voices that may contribute to that negative public opinion. I do not understand their paranoia when it comes to possible negative public opinon, but I do know that Governments that try to silence all those who oppose it are not good for democracy.
If the Conservatives continue down this destructive path, I for one will not be voting for them again in the next election.

how is it broken? It is the same system we've had since 1867. Only when guys get into office that certain individuals don't like, suddenly it's broken. Where were you during the 1970's? Why was the system not broken then?

After recently silencing environmental critics, it's no surprise he's placing a gag order on these parks workers. When a leader silences those who oppose his ideas, it's definitely time for a new leader.

It's not exactly accurate to say "its the same system we've had since 1867" because time allocation was only added to the standing orders in the mid-1960s.
Since then, various Liberal and Conservative Governments have made use of this provision. However, none have used it as often as the Harper Government.
Bill C-38 represents the 26th time the Harper Conservatives have limited debate since forming a majority Government. That is a record unsurpassed by any previous Government.

And yet the pro CON voters still won't admit to the secret agenda that the CONS were accused of having and now implementing by the way of force. They have to act fast so the people will forget by the time the next election rolls around. The latest poll shows that the people will NOT forget, even the doe hard CON supporters that are now realizing that their vote was the biggest mistake of their lives. "You won't recognize Canada by the time i'm finished with it" was the red light that should have been a wake up call. For years and years Canada was the best place to live so what's the hurry to make it unrecognizable?

The Harper dictatorship has not hesitated to repeat the Anglo-French-U.S. litany of justifications for oppressive and criminal acts against the citizenry. This is mainly comprised of disinformation to demoralize the poor and immigrants lest it save the rich and famous. It is a gross violation of human rights and he and the entire right wing should be stoned to death. This is to make sure no investigations can determine who is committing the violations. External powers, like Obama, are fuelling the internal conflict.
Harper. The Dictator.

Please don't misunderstand my original post by assuming I necessarily disagree with much of the present Government's policy. There is much that they have enacted (such as abolition of the gun registry) that I whole heartedly support. What I object to is the way they have invoked limits on debate on far too many occasions, and for no good reason.
Even good legislation, can not be hurt by having a good, open debate, and the opportunity for some "sober second thought". There is always the possibility for improvement, and if not, then at least all aspects would be considered prior to a bill actually becoming law. This is the foundation upon which our democratic process is built, and one which the present Government appears to be flouting.
Given that they have a majority, there is absolutely no need for them to limit debate and try to silence all opposition, therefore I can only ascribe it to paranoia about the potential negative effects on public opinion. And that is not a good way to run a Government in a democratic society such as ours.

It's a very terrifying time to be a Canadian. The Harper Dictatorship is a modern day killing machine of Canadians coast to coast. There is no where to hide from these neo-Kon K0nservatives. There is a secret agenda. If you don't know the secret you're as good as dead.

It should be noted that the Parks Canada Code of Ethics, that is referred to in the article, and that the employees are expected to follow was brought into force during the Martin, Liberal government reign. So the Cons are only ensuring something developed by the Liberal gov't is being followed.
Edit. So you should be asking why the Liberals put in such a restrictive Code of Ethics

Application
This Code applies to all employees, including managers, working in the Parks Canada Agency.
This Code of Ethics of the Parks Canada Agency comes into effect on February 1, 2006.
