Government stimulus money has dried up so this will be a very tough year for some. I laugh everytime I hear "we've created jobs!!" and "we're back to pre depression levels of jobs" Its all crap.. at least for Kelowna and area...
If you were a 'teacher" or other guaranteed government paychequer you would never even known about it the recession.

I would agree with Popeye. I do not see any improvement in Kelowna's economy. While Kelowna has been the fourth fastest growing community in Canada (Census Canada), our economy remains stagnant. While it is solely not the fault of the federal government, this article indicates clearly their advertised plan.

While the improvements to the EI program outlined in the Economic Action Plan are yet to be seen, I would challenge our local MP's to outline how these items are going to benefit Kelowna or even the Okanagan.
"Investing $205 million to extend the temporary Hiring Credit for Small Business for one year.Providing an additional $50 million over two years to the Youth Employment Strategy to assist more young people in gaining tangible skills and experience.Providing $6 million over three years to extend and expand the ThirdQuarter project to key centres across the country.Improving labour market opportunities for Canadians with disabilities by investing $30 million over three years in the Opportunities Fund and by creating a panel on labour market opportunities for persons with disabilities."
Thses are our tax dollars and I for one would like to know how they are going to benefit us. While that may appear selfish it does demand transparency and accountability, two other things promised by this government. Some things may be out of the government, but when they outline their plan in the budget omnibus bill, I believe that our local MP's need to explain how it should work.

Registered companies are required to complete monthly reports for Service Canada on whom they hired (cuts down on EI fraud), stats which can then be used to determine job creation.
Also, Stats Canada has monthly reports of labour/hiring filled out by companies, which are then used to extrapolate hiring in the various commercial sectors. It's very accurate with the level of statistical sampling they do.

There are some construction companies begging for employees right now in Kelowna. Problem is, too many construction people aren't willing to accept anything less than they received during the boom. People need to adjust their expectations away from what they got at the height of the construction boom, and come back down to normal expectations in a normal economy, which is where we're at now.

I don’t have any debt at all because I don't like it.
I could use a rate hike for my RRSP and RESP and saving account.

Well, what should I do?
:skyisfalling:
I'vee been living just above the poverty line so I could save money. oh it's not that bad.
I have some money saved not in RSPS that I have been using intrest to buy RSPS but I could stop that and put my savings into a house (that are too expensive right now) or a business. I wouldn't mind working in my own buisness or buy into a buisness and help work it. That would be more fun that doing my job.
Thanks.
