Guardsman Impaled on own Bayonet

Postby Treblehook » Jun 27th, 2012, 11:26 am

Who's got it right.. the National Post or CBC in reporting this incident. 20 year old guardsman seriously injured when he fell on his bayonet. National Post reported that he had slipped when turning while on a manhole cover.. the CBC says it happened when he collapsed after passing out. Two significantly different versions of the event. I wonder who got it right. The Post reported that other guards had also slipped when they passed over the manhole cover, but had been able to recover. That detail would seem to suggest that the version reported by them was researched. Slipping while marching is very easily done, particularly when the horseshoe, steel "clickers" are on the heel of the boots.

Blacking out while standing at attention for long periods of time is also a very common occurrance. If doing it with bayonet fixed it can get rather ugly too.

In this case, that he slipped while marching is the correct version.

Do you think WSBC (The ontario one.. dunno how it's call) should request these knives to be changed for plastic ones?

How do you spot somebody who never served in the military forces? It's usually the one who calls bayonet a knife.

That's the least of my concerns. And "baïonnette" and "knife" are synonyms in the dictionnary. Try to find the ï on your keyboard. Should keep you busy for a while.

If you're going to make fun of other people's intelligence, then learn how to proofread.

All the more reason to accept that English is a more comprehensive and adaptable modern language than French has ever been, ....or ever will be.

Just like "battle cruiser" and "boat". But calling battle cruiser a boat is moronic.

PLEEEEEAAAAAAASE, stop calling the St-Lawrence river a river. It's not a river, it's a "Fleuve". A fleuve goes into the ocean, a rivière doesn't. River sounds moronic when refering to the St-Lawrence.
