Disabled Military/RCMP Veterans

Postby Treblehook » Nov 8th, 2012, 6:17 pm

The following Letter to the Editor was written by a very well informed, involved and dedicated advocate for Veterans in Canada who has been pursuing issues for Military and RCMP vets. Perhaps this letter will help to inform Canadians respecting the disservice being done [by our government] to those who have served. Maybe some Canadians will even take this issue up with their Member of Parliament to demonstrate their interest, concern, and perhaps even [disgust] at the way those who have served are being treated.

Disable Military/RCMP Veterans
Struggle continues!
The Queen’s U report clearly revealed that the New Veterans Charter seriously short change the financial position of our disabled Veterans. It is unacceptable that the Conservative party continues to implement the flawed New Veteran Charter that cheats Veterans and their Families of a proper lifetime disability pension.

During Remembrance week Members of Parliament will take every photo opportunity to acknowledge our fallen Heroes. They will also praise Military/RCMP Veterans for their dedication, devotion and service to their Country Canada. Unfortunately when disabled Veterans return home they will see their financial benefits cut off and they will feel abandon by the same Government they have served so gallantly.

The New Veterans Charter provides a lump sum payment that terminate the following benefits to Veterans and their Families:

- A monthly disability tax free pension;

- A monthly allowance paid under the Pension Act;

- Survivor’s pension;

- War Veterans allowance, and

- Closure of Veterans Hospital wings and beds.

It is repugnant that a majority elected Conservative party continues to allow the deterioration of Military/RCMP Veterans benefits while it depletes billions of dollars surplus from their Annuity account and then claws back their Annuity at age 65. When will this Government fulfill its responsibility and treat Military/RCMP Veterans with the financial dignity they have earned and paid for in so many different ways?

The Government of Canada should take into consideration that we live in a free Country today because some Veterans shed some blood, some did not return, all were prepared to give the ultimate sacrifice and some Families gave it their all.

Veterans can’t wait to hear: “Your call is important to us! Please stay on the line, and a representative will be with you shortly”

We shall remember them!

Sincerely,

John Labelle
Veteran Advocate

Vets deserve a pension, politicians do not. The older I get the more disdain I have for politicians.
Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation, and war, and cruelty. People are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem.
