I believe the message these two are giving is, "It's our land, get out!"
i think they are saying if you don't want to take care of it and you are trying to rewrite the lease. give it back.
Peace be with you.

All that dieting to see Harper, then she gets her chance and refuses because she also wanted the Governor General there, who on the news said it was a government affair and he wouldn't be involved anyway. Seems she figured as she lives in a glass house that throwing rocks wasn't the best idea.

The chief is quite within her rights to want to deal with the Queen's representative in Canada IF it was with the Queen (crown) that the treaties were originally agreed upon and signed. Harper is not the Queen's representative in Canada. I don't know why she thought she should have a meeting with Harper in the first place unless there are some other treaties that were signed with the Canadian government.

I believe the message these two are giving is, "It's our land, get out!"
They believe they are the landlord, and Canadian settlers are the tenants.
This is the message I have been getting for some months.

In 1867, the British North America Act transferred responsibility for Canada's First Peoples was transferred from the British to the Canadian government. The Canadian government now had the sole authority to negotiate treaties with the Indians, and purchase their land.

Re: Harper to meet with Chief Spence/First Nations leaders
The Royal Proclamation of 1763 decreed that First Nations should not be disturbed in their use and enjoyment of the land. It also declared that only the Crown could acquire land from First Nations, and only through treaty-making. The Royal Proclamation set the framework for negotiation based on co-operation rather than conquest.
Peace be with you.

That's not strictly true.
It's also apples and oranges in a whole lot of ways.
