That's pretty close.

Each Indian Nation is its own "country" and each chief of each nation has the same status as the Prime Minister has. There are 600+ nations within the nation of Canada. Each nation has different issues/challenges, customs and even different languages. They do not have one chief/government who makes decisions for all of them.

Maybe all 600 chiefs should tax their residents to the hilt instead of using my tax dollars to pay for them.

I haven't anywhere to go "back" to.

i guess you will have to join your local band, wow this movement is really working good ,this thread is an impressive collection of native c/g relations and history.a fantastic collection of living stereotypes, strong heart felt beliefs in conflict.its amazing.and shows so much of what people truly value
poor john a ,could have been kids to .he'll clean up.
It's become a total soap opera .i cant wait to hear whats going to happen next on the news its like another (native) world.
will Theresa meet with Steve and Dave or will she be happy with her visit with the gg and go to the nearest drive thru.
will the idle no more be happy with the meetings planned next week with Steve, will Shawn still be tough behind close doors or will Steve and him drink some beers and laugh about the whole thing.stay tuned Canadians for the next episode of another (native) world.one thing is for sure no mention of opening up the omnibus bills.

Not bad if you werent working for it, shoulda helped some of them find a way to a work place and I am sure they dont have to report money made working on top of that, so, a family of five raking in 40 grand, is that tax free? Then doing some part time work could do well... Really, I would sit back and enjoy 40 grand for doing absolutely nothing but lets assume you are right,,, its hard to live off 40 grand IF they are not getting all of that money,,, maybe its going elsewhere,,,?

If each one is its own country then why do they recieve money from the country of Canada?

I am a Canadian. I recognize that like every other country in the entire world a different stewardship of resources is required in the future than that has happened in any country in the world to this date. Bolivia and Columbia have already started on this path. If my memory serves me I believe that it is Bolivia that has given its major river constitutional rights that industry, governments and tribes YES tribes now have to deal with and that is the way that all governments will develop if the resources of the world is to be used gracioulsy.

If each of the 600 nations want their own throne do not and I REPEAT do not ask me to curtesy because I will not. First I have arthritis because I have worked too hard to pay Canadian taxes and did not sit back and reap rewards by expecting my neighbours to see to my livelihood, and NO....English is not my first language but it is the language that the majority of Canadians speak. If the nations want their own language then spend your dime not mine because I have no need of another language heck french is about as fluent in my mouth as latin. If each nation wants thier own culture quit killing eagles to build those head pieces. Eagles are as much mine as they are yours...GOD gave them to this world. Now I know that is a sounds ridiculous but is it the same thing that is being said by native Indians. Those eagles are as much as a symbol to me as the feathers are to you.

Unless the nations can put the past behind them and build their nations using their own initiatives without the expectation that Canadians will pay for it, heck most cultures that were lost 200 years ago are still alive they simply went underground...what's up with that....

I am a senior trying my best to live within my means without asking for any support from any one, HOWEVER, until the nations bring their demands into a line where all CANADIANS can live together under the same rules....I will not be filing any more income tax returns where the feds can take my money without a fight. Therefore there are going to be just a fewer dollars available Jack!

GONE IDLE!

IMO, this whole situation is pathetic. I don't profess to know all about what is happening, but I do know that I, nor my parents, nor their parents, signed any treaties, nor did any of the horendous things done to natives 200 years ago, yet we continue to pay for whatever was done.
Now they are threatening to criple the economy by doing road blocks, etc., next Wed? IF this is not brought under control, there is going to be trouble.
We don't get our kids education paid for, we don't get money every month to live on, we don't get any tax breaks....but we sure as H have to pay!!! When is the day going to come when Canadians (ie., not first nations and immigrants) going to benefit? stop having to pay for what ancestors did eons ago? Isn't it time to stop it...Now!?
Waterwings.....good post!

Yeah, you do - because the government of that day signed treaties with those people that said you were going to. Kinda like Obama and the debt he is incurring on several generations of future Americans and the debt the Canadian government is saddling our descendents with now.

Quite likely - remember the Gustafsen Lake Standoff? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gustafsen_Lake_Standoff the Oka Crisis? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oka_Crisis and the Ipperwash Crisis? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipperwash_Crisis

IMO, Canada is as screwed up as people keep saying the US is. I don't much like bashing any race/country....but I could have a lot to say about this one. It most definitely isn't as great or as perfect as some seem to think.
Maybe, if the Queen of the day signed the treaties, then maybe HER ancestors should bear the brunt? LOLOL
