:ohmygod: end of the world. Montreal has millions of rats and they found *1* in Alberta.

The picture also look photoshopped. What's your opinion on the article/picture?

Either way, it appears the rodent Dan Reiter said he found in his garage this week is indeed a rat.

Phil Merrill, Alberta's top rat catcher, said several photographs of the rodent caught rooting about Reiter's Calgary garage appears to be a roof rat.

He suspects it likely came from Vancouver and hopes it didn't have company.

Alberta is a rat-free province and has been since the 1950's. Google it.

I think we have a differant variety here on this forum....

Interesting enough, I wonder if Alberta constantly baits for rats (Trap) to see if they have this issuee under control. If you see a rat, there are many more!

Poison can be eaten by mice or rats, as it is the same bait. It would be interesting to know.

And I lived in Quebec for years, and I only saw one in my lifetime... A baby rat I purchased as a pet. But then the smell was so bad I got rid of it a couple weeks later.

Did I mention there are millions of rats in Quebec?

There are plenty of rats in trappers cabins in the foothills/mountains of Alberta.
Alberta may be free of rats in local areas, but is not rat free.
A trapper from Cadomin Alberta had me hold on to one pitch fork while he stabbed a rat behind the woodpile in his cabin. He has been a trapper for decades and has not once visited his cabin without killing a rat.

Other trappers have told me the same thing.
They also laugh when they hear that Alberta is Rat Free.
