Certainly, the residents of Socialist Island would be able to realize their dreams of having their very own NDP government.

Perhaps that's the local incentive for this impoverished region to split off on its own and apply the principles of socialism so hailed by the Jagrup Brars of the NDP? Why be held back from that dream by the current free enterprise government, when one can live the fancy-free lifestyle of a socialist on one's own island?

When Ottawa was chosen it was central (Canada back then was only Quebec & Ontario). Its location was chosen because it sits on the border of both provinces.

Ottawa was only a logging camp frown upon by the bourgeoisie (the small village that it was back then had a different name I forgot it)... and because no one could agree on which city to be the Capital, the Prime Minister at the time had the Queen to rule that Parliament should be in Ottawa.

It seems there is historical precedent for Vancouver Island being a separate jurisdiction from the rest of BC. And it predates both Canadian Confederation as well as BC joining the Confederation of Canada. In fact, it was in 1856 when the Legislative Assembly of Vancouver Island represented voters as the first elected parliamentary assembly in British North America west of Upper Canada. And even then, it appears the Spanish were there before the British : -)

150 Years+...

September 2013 is the 150th anniversary since the beginning of the third and last session of the Legislative Assembly of the Colony of Vancouver Island.

...2016 is the 150th anniversary of the unification of the colony of VI and the colony of BC.

...2017 is the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation.

...2021 is the 150th anniversary of BC joining the Confederation of Canada.

as a british columbian, i take offense to the suggestion that should the ice begin to advance once again, and the island become our last refuge, the islanders feel we, british columbians should no longer have that refuge within our boundaries.
I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

That just makes no sense whatsoever! First off you would have been dead for millions of years before there is another ice age and second we seem to be having global warming not cooling. More than likely VI will be under water first so those that live there better grow gills or learn how to tread water.

I've thought about this for a long time, and as much as I like Corky Evans and his idea to move the capital to Kamloops, I propose my own idea that would divide British Columbia into 5 separate provinces (2 of the parts would join the neighbouring territories).

Here is a rough draft...
