C2C - I notice you left out this tidbit from the article:

Science is the gathering of hypotheses and the endless testing of them. It involves checking and double-checking, self-criticism and a willingness to overturn even fundamental assumptions if they prove to be wrong. But none of this can happen without open communication among scientists. This is more than an attack on academic freedom. It is an attempt to guarantee public ignorance.

It is high comedy that a man-made global warming guy would write something like the above. The entire junk science and arrogant digusting tactics of the warmist movement has all been about suppressing any and all dissension in the ranks of the apocalyptic predictors. There have been many scientists demanding that the manufactured "consensus" and the "fundamental" assumptions surrounding the AGW hoax be overturned, as they are dead wrong. And yet these same people have the arrogance to accuse the Canadian federal government of doing this? Patently ridiculous and uber-hypocritical.

Ok - you are right. You didn't. My apologies.

Excellent quote. If you truly followed this wisdom, it would dawn on you that this whole AGW fraud is just a recycle (as we all know, environmentalists are good recyclers) of the New Ice Age scam of the 1970's. In fact, some of the players in that scam, like Dr. Steve Schneider and uber-pessimist Paul Ehrlich, were part of both scams, and in the case of Ehrlich, continue to milk the current iteration for personal fame, including being lauded by the dunderheads in the Obama administration. See for yourself:

1970s Global Cooling Alarmism

Image

During the 1970s the media promoted global cooling alarmism with dire threats of a new ice age. Extreme weather events were hyped as signs of the coming apocalypse and man-made pollution was blamed as the cause. Environmental extremists called for everything from outlawing the internal combustion engine to communist style population controls. This media hype was found in newspapers, magazines, books and on television;

While a silent majority of the scientific community may have been more skeptical, you ironically find one of the most outspoken supporters of modern day Al Gore style global warming alarmism was promoting global cooling in the 1970s, the late Dr. Steven Schneider;

LV - I care. This smacks of fascism.

Harper has gone after every branch of government that has anything to do with getting in the way of improper resource development. The whole purpose of government scientists was to provide the most objective view of things possible. He has successfully destroyed that.

Every fascist and totalitarian communist government in the past has done this.

Let's see:

- change the NEB rules.
- circumvent provincial environmental reviews
- turn Transport Canada into a paper tiger
- underfund pipeline inspections
- refuse to allow government scientists to speak to the media
- direct that studies will be done to benefit commercial interests (corporate welfare)
- shut down climate research
- severely restrict fisheries
- ignore First Nations
- destroy the meaningfulness of census data
- gone after the CBC
- attacked with vitriol anyone who offers a dissenting opinion
- etc.

The pattern here is to deny meaningful information to the public, and to shape information released to suit an agenda. In other words, turn the government agencies into a propaganda arm for for the great Steve-O and his Calgary oilmen buddies.

That matters.

I do agree HG that everything about the AGW movement smacks of fascism. Not funding this nonsense smacks of good use of taxpayer money.

Harper has gone after every branch of government that has anything to do with getting in the way of improper resource development. The whole purpose of government scientists was to provide the most objective view of things possible. He has successfully destroyed that.

This is your opinion, as seen through red-tinted socialist glasses. My opinion of the very same events is about 100% polar opposite of yours, and I think you are dead wrong.

Every fascist and totalitarian communist government in the past has done this.

Oh please. This is just complete nonsense.

Let's see:

- change the NEB rules.

For the better. Way way too many schmucks at the trough and way way too much duplication. Only ninnies who don't care how much money is wasted by governments oppose this, for reasons they don't even know. They are just blinded by their Harper hate.

- circumvent provincial environmental reviews

Where and when? Check that, if this is just more anti Enbridge pipeline nonsense I don't even want to hear it.
- turn Transport Canada into a paper tiger

LOL. Since when do you deal with Transport Canada? I have dealt with them, and this is just such a nonsensical statement it is sad.

- underfund pipeline inspections

LOL - when and where? More Enbridge nonsense?

- refuse to allow government scientists to speak to the media

So say these alleged "scientists". If the only thing they aren't allowed to do is lie about global warming and try to scare people into funding more of their garbage "research" into this hoax, then great! Lying shouldn't be tolerated by people wanting government money to support their lies.

- direct that studies will be done to benefit commercial interests (corporate welfare)

I honestly threw up in my mouth when I read this nonsense. Seriously - you want studies to NOT benefit the taxpayers of this country, who are PAYING for the research? "Corporate welfare"??? Oh my goodness, this is beyond silly.

- shut down climate research

You mean not continue to throw money at a fraud and hoax? AWESOME!!!!!

- severely restrict fisheries
- ignore First Nations
- destroy the meaningfulness of census data

Massive LOL at all three. Ignore First Nations? LOL!!!!!!

- gone after the CBC

Gone after them? Every time I happen to accidently watch that horrible network, they are still spewing their leftist nonsense. You want to talk about communism and fascism? How about what the uber-socialist idiots did in Venezuela? THAT's going after the media. This is just trumped up garbage.

- attacked with vitriol anyone who offers a dissenting opinion
- etc.

I don't recall this, but what I have seen are unprecedented attacks on this government from the leftist media, from the UN and EU who are angry that Canadians (at least those with brains) are standing up to the climate change hoax, from the uber-leftist "Amnesty Canada" etc. Given the nuttiness of these attacks and the foolishness of the people behind them, I have seen the Canadian government operate with amazing restraint. I'd be screaming at those evil scumbags in the UN every day, for the evils they perpetuate on the world. They are disgusting. So anyway, you comment above I find to be wrong, completely wrong, in every way.

The pattern here is to deny meaningful information to the public, and to shape information released to suit an agenda. In other words, turn the government agencies into a propaganda arm for for the great Steve-O and his Calgary oilmen buddies.

That matters.

The pattern you are mentioning is exactly the MO of the climate change warmists and the Obama administration. Exactly. If you think that Harper is doing this, then I fully expect that you would be twice as angry at Obama, and the dunderheads in his administration trying to force the "CO2 is a pollutant" nonsense onto the American people via his storm-troopers in the EPA.

Where have you been for the last few years?

No, actually it's not. It's not even close to fact HG. It's a bunch of nonsensical leftist spin on actual events. And some of the items you are posting as a negative are actually a positive. I honestly don't know if the Conservatives have cut funding to climate change research, despite your claims, but if they have, then bully for them. Enough money has been dumped down that black hole, to satisfy the lunatic fringe and the uber-gullible. It's time to spend taxpayer money on real actual issues. Not fairy tales.

Where have you been for the last few years?

I've been in Canada. From the sound of your leftist rhetoric, you've been in a communist indoctrination camp.

I think it's ironic that Dave Sukuki was one of the honored guest speakers at the "scientist protest" because he immediately jumped on a plane to go spout anti-science in Australia.

Thank you for posting that article. While trying to read it made me wretch, as it is fraught with the usual alarmist nonsense, this part of the article was the only part worth reading, in my opinion:

Harper, who came to power in 2006 unapologetic for once describing the Kyoto climate accords as “essentially a socialist scheme to suck money out of wealth-producing nations,

Thank goodness we elected a leader with the guts to tell the exact truth. The Kyoto "climate" accords were a total and complete scam inflicted on the Western world by deranged leftists, designed to do EXACTLY what Harper said - to suck money out of wealth-producing nations. What the quote didn't say was that it was designed this way, all with the over-lying lie regarding man-made climate change, to dupe naïve bleeding hearts into willfully handing over their wallets, and to unquestioningly bend over and take idiotic "carbon" taxes and stupid trading schemes up the hoop. Thank goodness we weren't as stupid as Spain and Portugal. Thank goodness we didn't blindly fall for the lies of the "Green Economy" like the poor saps in Germany. Thank goodness we don't have dunderheads running this country like the Obama administration, pouring massive amounts of money into "renewable" energy and watching it just go "poof" like Obama did with Solyndra. Thank goodness radical nuts like the one that wrote this article aren't in charge or have any power.

Was Suzuki at this stupid rally? If he was why am I not shocked. I think the irony of that fraud showing up at this "scientific protest" was that Suzuki isn't really a scientist, and after making a massive fool of himself on national TV in Australia last week, it's clear he really has not even the remotest grasp on the current climate change situation, and is just content to parrot zealot dogma that is prevalent in most of the warmist movement.

Yes, and the reason I know is because I was invited to attend the protest via Facebook. Here is the CBC article talking about Saint Suzuki rallying the troops.. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c ... -1.1855877

Oh I see, he attended the Vancouver "scientific" protest. I didn't realize that these loons were in other cities as well as Ottawa. As the CBC reported "100" protestors were there in Vancouver, I am assuming about 30 actually showed up, and that's being kind to the CBC, who usually over-estimate the size of lunatic protesting groups by a 4 to 5 to one margin. I wonder how many "scientists" were actually in this filthy mob that St. Suzuki, aka the naked emperor, was preaching to.
