Canada's obesity rates triple in less than 30 years

http://www.cbc.ca/news/health/canada-s- ... -1.2558365

This is the result of letting companies replace ingredients with glucose/filler and push junky-junk-junk and "constant economic growth".

The question is - are we going to do anything about it?

We regulate food to make sure that poison that kills you within a few days isn't present.

Poisons that kill you in 25 years? Eat up, Canada.

I think we are living in a time where convenience is taking priority over healthy choices across the spectrum. We hop in our gas-guzzler to drive three blocks and pick up some pre-cooked concoction of refined carbs, salt and fat to take home to our growing children and we all spend a few hours watching TV. The Canadian way? The right choices are available to us all, it's just that most lack the discipline to make those choices. It's not really fair to hang the blame on food producers who are really just responding to what we ask for, and if we were to start "regulating" the food industry to keep potentially harmful products off the shelves then we had better be ready for a real fight. There are billions of dollars at play in that arena. How much luck would we have shutting down a major player like the alcohol industry?

The food industry for the most part, cares squat about our health, their gaze is fixed firmly on our wallets. It really is up to the individual consumer to take charge and simply stop buying the schlock that's out there.

Are you referring to BMI? Because that one always gets me. No consideration granted to muscle mass vs body fat, etc.

Yes. Anybody who frequents a weight room will be considered obese.

We all have to die from something one day.

Based on that fact, I'll keep eating fast food occasionally.

Psst. My BMI says I'm slightly obese. Which I'm not.

If Canada's obesity rate tripled in the last thirty years
we are going to see some incredible health problems in the next twenty years as our population ages.

Dr Bernard Jensen said " People who try to save money on food end up paying for
it later in doctor's bills. Eat the BEST food you can get."

We know that poor people eat more of the low quality food, and we also know poor people
have more health problems than the rich. It's the cheap crap that is making people obese.

a few big corporations control most of the food we eat - and they're greedy.
they couldn't care less if people become obese. Sugar and chemical additives are added
so they make more money. even the so called 'healthy' foods are loaded with sugar.

People need to learn something about nutrition. Especially poor people need to start reading.

Unfortunately sometimes it's the cost of the food and not the nutritional value that is the problem.

It's can be expensive to eat healthy!
