it is obvious the police do not know where the missing are, and have passed on volunteer searchers, it seems that the cops' consideration for a survivour scenario is negligible if at all. considering that murder x 3 has been charged, that says they are not considering that scenario of a survivour or survivours at all.

OMG it's almost like you finally understand! Yes they are not considering a scenario of there being survivors based on the evidence that they currently have.

You are correct, but you are dismissing that they have made these decisions based on far more information than you (or the media) have, so why do you feel compelled to question that decision?

they haven't convinced the family all 3 are dead, so why on earth should i be convinced.
I'm not worried what I say, if they see it now or they see it later, I said it. If you don't know maybe that would hurt you, I don't know. You should know though, so you don't get hurt, so you know what side to be on when it happens.

It's called shock for the family, People in such stressful situations are often unwilling to believe the worst, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. (If they are privy to the inside information so far withheld from the general public, to prevent nutjobs from... well I don't have to tell you do I...)

What's your excuse?

And probably for exactly the same reason, they can't tell them everything they know.

Again, what would the motive be for them not wanting to search for survivors if they thought there were some?

their motive is, having laid charges already, to find living people would make them look bad.

The search for Nathan O'Brien and his grandparents has adopted more sophisticated technology, as a specialized helicopter normally used in the oilfields joined the hunt for evidence over the weekend.

It's been three weeks since the five-year-old and his grandparents Kathy and Alvin Liknes were found to be missing from the Parkhill home where they were last seen. Calgary police say they suspect the three have been killed and have laid two charges of first-degree murder and one charge of second-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Kathy, Alvin and Nathan, respectively.

"To think that someone could do that is just … there's a lot of motivating factors and obviously the family is first and foremost," said Greg Head, whose brother owns Vieworx, a specialized aerial referencing company. "We want them found."

Head is a family friend of the O'Briens and says he and his brother are determined to do all they can to help the family find out what happened to their loved ones.

Vieworx is based out of Grande Prairie and collects aerial data from a helicopter using cutting-edge technology.

It can see beyond crops and trees and detect any sort of ground disturbance at a very high resolution — which is what police are most interested in.

High-resolution view from above

The helicopter is normally used in the oilfields, but over the weekend, Head, his brother and other company specialists spent hours flying over the Airdrie acreage that has been the subject of a massive police search over the past two weeks.

They covered a radius of nearly 10 kilometres and the data they collected is being reviewed by police.

"It's like Google Earth, but like shooting Google Earth right now at a very high resolution," said Head. "It's a way to help police look back through where they searched and if there's anything interesting, zoom right in."

The National Research Council also had a plane flying over the same areas.

Police said the two technologies are complementary and while it's too early to tell if the flights will produce results in the search, Head says he is determined to keep supporting the O'Briens in whatever way he and his brother can.

"We want to find them and bring them back to their families," he said. "That's what I want more than anything."

the missing are not here to speak for themselves, and with the belief that they have been victimized, i advocate for them.

And having you speak for them is helping them in no way.

OMG. Talk about not wanting to be confused by the facts.

A Castanet member who is a police officer has contributed to this thread by saying that the charge of murder is not requested lightly. The police have to be convinced that murder(s) took place and then they have to convince the crown that murder(s) took place in order to have the charges formalized but he must be lying because he is a cop and you are of course the worlds leading authority on everything police related.

If the police already know that murder was committed, why is it so hard to believe that they wouldn't want hundreds of feet and hands traipsing over and touching potential evidence?

Even after they have their prime suspect, they like to be able to present evidence at the trial to support their belief that the accused in fact is guilty and evidence helps their cause.

Someone hypothesized that the bodies may not be recoverable and that is a possibility. They are bringing in ground penetrating sonar though presumably in an effort to exhaust the possibility that the bodies are intact and salvageable but even if they never locate any trace of the bodies, they have already arrived at the place where they believe that A) the three are dead and B) that they have the perpetrator in custody. Yes, innocent until proven guilty but the police I would think tend to know when they are likely to see their efforts result in a conviction as would the Crown because they won't level charges they CANNOT support.

Please, take that deep breath and go on vacation.

So you believe that they recklessly laid charges of murder when they didn't have enough evidence to convince them that the three were no longer alive?

What do you think they would rather have as an outcome. laying of a murder charge or finding them alive? I would suggest the latter.

Looks like the police would rather use professionals to find evidence. Makes sense to me.

So on one side we have many dozens of trained professionals intimately involved in the investigation with first hand intel.

On the other hand we have a british columbian, sitting on the couch with absolutely no clue about the whole thing except for reading a few news releases telling us how they got it all wrong.

Mmmmkay.

Claims that the missing are deceased is absurd without recovering the bodies. Anyone on this thread who is not of this mind first and foremost is not operating on instinct, common sense or logic. How anyone can go along with statements being made by the authorties on this case is 100% beyond my ability to comprehend. Unless you are that gullible....perhaps.

Again do you know what the cops found at the scene? It has to be something substantial to charge someone with murder. As you are just another typical cop hater I am not going to worry about what you cannot comprehend, I simply don't have the time.
