Unruly passengers on planes
http://www.castanet.net/edition/news-st ... htm#121792
2 fighter jets for 2 drunken women? Seeing as the cockpit is locked, what could these women do that would force ONE of those jets to blow it out of the sky killing ALL aboard? Maybe one jet would fire missiles at the airliner and the other had bombs to drop on it once it crashed just to make sure? Talk about overkill at the taxpayer's expense.
Two women are in custody after a Sunwing flight bound for Cuba was forced to return to Toronto's Pearson International Airport on Wednesday evening.
The airline says the flight had taken off from Toronto at 4:30 p.m. en route to Cuba when it was disrupted by "two unruly female passengers."
Sunwing vice-president Janine Chapman says the passengers had consumed a "significant quantity of their duty free alcohol purchase in the lavatory."
She says they then lit a cigarette, triggering the smoke alarm, and "proceeded to get into a physical altercation with each other and made a threat against the aircraft."
Chapman added in an email to The Canadian Press that the threat was considered non-credible given the condition of the passengers.
NORAD said it scrambled two CF-18 fighter jets based out of Bagotville, Que., to escort Flight 656 back to Toronto.
Peel Region police took the two unidentified women into custody once the aircraft arrived back at Pearson. There was no word on what charges might be laid against them.
Chapman said the flight was scheduled to leave Pearson again at about 11 p.m. with a new flight crew.

Yes, but what if they had scissors on them?
Sarcasm is like a good game of chess. Most people don't know how to play chess.

Then you let them run up and down the aisle until nature takes care of itself.

What's wrong with getting some real time practice in for when the threat may be credible?

They could scramble their jets on a military plane instead so not to freak out the passengers as the only thing a jet fighter could do if there was a real threat would be to decide when to shoot down the airliner with everyone aboard.

I doubt this is a one off for these women, probably like a normal Friday night. Hopefully they get charged with something substantial.

Likely a married couple...wonder what the fine for this will be. They should be banned from flying for life on any commercial flight.

Two Toronto-area women have been charged after a disturbance forced a Sunwing flight bound for Cuba to return to Pearson International Airport under a military escort.
Peel regional police said Lilia Ratmanski, 25, of Whitby, and Milana Muzikante, 26, of Vaughan, face five charges each, including smoking on board an aircraft, endangering the safety of an aircraft, mischief endangering life, and uttering threats.
They are scheduled to appear at the Brampton courthouse on Thursday.

Re: Unruly passengers on planes
The same week there were two instances of arguments between passengers concerning seat space which seems to be becoming an issue. It has been for me for a long time.
In both instances, flights were diverted in order to have the combatants removed which is costly to the tune of +- 6k an hour.
Not as much of an overreaction as scrambling fighter jets but close.
You would think that a simple disagreement between grown ups could be dealt with in a less costly and dramatic way like sending them to different corners of the cabin and giving them a time out.
There seems to be a marked lack of common sense being utilized here.

Give them a straight jacket and tell them it's a parachute, then push them out the door. Problem solved.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?

Yeah except for that whole cabin depressurization thing. LOL

A lot easier to drop down to a lower level than turn around and go back.

The last thing you want is a physical altercation on a plane. I agree with their absolute zero tolerance, because while they may be adults, you and I both know that they often behave anything but.

Re: Unruly passengers on planes
Agreed but still, if it was a flight I was on and a couple of idiots were squaring off and there was a possibility that the plane was going to be diverted in order to get them off which would delay my vacation, I would be more than happy to help restrain them.
