POLL: Should airliners charge by weight?
With the new fees for luggage... Do you think the Airliners should also start charging customers by weight?
As we know, the more weight in a plane, the more expensive it is on fuel.
Why should a passenger weighting only 200lb and carrying two 50lb luggage should have to pay more than a passenger weighting 300lb carrying a 5lb handbag? Even though it may seem offensive to some, it's something to think about...

Then should big and tall people get more room if they have to pay more?

Would a plane load of little kids get to fly virtually free?

Chinese restaurants charge by age, so why not?

I think no matter how we interpret it.. give them the "extra" space or not... they're already taking it. No one can argue that someone 6'2 300lb takes more space than someone 5'5 150lb, right?
Interesting article here:

Someone who's 6'5" and 240 lbs won't interfere with the space of the person next to them but will not have the leg room except for the front rows and emergency exit rows, which I find are always reserved by average to short people.

Airlines use standard weights based on gender and season (winter is more than summer) and seems to be working fine. The issue isn't the weight it's the amount of room some take - and if some takes up a quarter of my seat because of their size - they should be charged more and that money given to the person being "loved" by their seat buddy.

This shouldn't just be about size, but safety, his and everyone else, can he wear the seat belt ? Can he move quick enough to the exits without holding up everyone else in case of an emergency ?

Works for me but you know that the "fat people are already persecuted enough" group will have plenty to say about it.
And I am that 6"3. 270 pounder so it would affect me I would think and I am still OK with it.
