“We greatly appreciate the service and contributions of all of our employees and are treating departing employees with the utmost respect, while providing generous and enhanced severance packages, continuing health benefits and outplacement services,” Alexandra Cygal, vice-president of corporate affairs, said in an e-mail.

That's after telling employees (last week) that the media rumors about layoffs are false.

Gotta love the buzzwords: 'enhanced severance package'

I believe TFWs are under contract for X number of years with the franchisees. Franchises are most independents. So it wouldn't be up corporate to make front line staff cuts anyway. It was just typical PR spin. Makes the Harper Govt look good too! " Hey we made sure no front line workers lost their jobs' ....

That's an other funny one. CIBC claims they gonna hire 5000 people this year but had to lay off 500 to 'better serve customers'. Sure lots of deadbeat working there! They are looking to hire 5000 yet fire 500, so, those 500 must have been horrible workers. Who hired them in the first place?

Different departments, different jobs?

I think everyone is aware that it's not store workers by now. Maybe you should read the messages before beeking off.

How does the Government enforce that deal anyway? Did they make the new owners pinky swear?
It's kind of a empty promise to begin with because most stores are independently owned franchises. The staff there are not employed by Corporate anyway.
