400 jobs lost at Tim Hortons

Post by Mike6921 »

Tim Hortons laid off 400 Canadian employees at their headquarters.

As part of [Burger King] deal with the federal government, the company, renamed Restaurant Brands International, agreed not to cut front-line staff working at Tim Hortons restaurants.

Hey its not so bad. At least all the temporary forgien workers jobs were protected.

I thought I recall a proposed agreement that if sold, it was not to affect the Canadian employment. Am I dreaming or was that part of the pre-sale agreement?

That was my joke. The deal was "no front line workers effected".

So the Brazilian conglomerate that owns it, just chopped all the distribution centres and suits.

The philipino family living in the franchise owners basement - they keep their jobs.

Ottawa has restricted Burger King from axing more than 20 per cent of corporate staff at Tim Hortons’ longtime headquarters or regional offices, an Industry Canada spokesman confirms.

The newly-merged company Restaurant Brands International is required to “maintain significant employment levels” of non-restaurant employees as part of the list of commitments the fast food behemoth made to get final approval in December from the federal government to seal the $12.5 billion deal.

Although it wasn’t announced at the time, Industry Minister James Moore actually secured a more definitive commitment that Burger King maintain 80 per cent of Tim Hortons’ “entire corporate footprint” at both the Oakville head office and regional offices across Canada, said his press secretary Jake Enwright.

If they do as good of a job as they did on Burger King (3G Capital) the brand should tank in no time.

While a Brazilian based company owns BK, the restaurants are almost entirely privately owned franchises. People in our community.
