So I saw a bumper sticker today that said, I'm a Veterinarian so I drive like an animal.
I suddenly realised how many Proctologists are on the road!

Some items from my collection. All belonged to family members who served.
Lest we forget.

PM Trudeau is in Paris this Remembrance Day, just as he should be

Young, fresh-faced Canada sent 424,000 men overseas to fight in the First World War and nearly 61,000 of them were killed on foreign soil, far, far, far away from their homes in their 50-year-old country.

Those Canadians rest now in cemeteries all over Europe and their sacrifice helped forge a nation.

So it seems entirely appropriate that, on the 100th anniversary of the end of that great conflict, Canada’s prime minister, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of this year, should spend the day in France, where many of the greatest battles Canadians fought and died in were waged.

What did YOU do in memory of our fallen?

I hung 2 Canadian flags this morning, and stopped what I was doing @ 11:00 and gave 11 minutes of respect, in silence.

I am so proud to be a Canadian.

I see nobody has posted about the (should be) legendary Francis Pegamegahbow, who was regarded as the most effective sniper of ww1 with a recorded 378 kills.

I hadn't heard of him before...was he from B.C.?

Later today I will google to find out more.
Sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice. There’s a certain point at which ignorance becomes malice, at which there is simply no way to become THAT ignorant except deliberately and maliciously.

He was from Ontario. I found this piece (there are many regarding Pegahmagabow but this one made mention of others):

https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/na ... e21475002/

http://www.veterans.gc.ca/eng/remembran ... tails/9344

There's more to the article.
A bronze likeness of Company Sergeant-Major (CSM) Francis Pegahmagabow was unveiled June 21, 2016 on National Aboriginal Day in Parry Sound, Ontario, just a short drive from Sgt Pegahmagabow’s birthplace at Wasauksing First Nation. The event featured a strong military presence, including Lieutenant General Marquis Hainse, Commander of the Canadian Army, and a 50-soldier guard of honour.

The monument was created by Tyler Fauvelle, a sculptor based in Sudbury, Ontario. The statue, which stands approximately three metres or 10 feet tall, depicts CSM Pegahmagabow in his wartime uniform with an eagle above and a caribou at his side.

CSM Pegahmagabow is revered for being the most decorated Aboriginal Canadian to fight in the First World War. He is one of only 38 Canadian troops to have earned the Military Medal (MM) with two bars, each representing an act of valour.

He earned the first in 1917 at the Battle of Passchendaele, the successful assault on a ridge in Belgium held by the Germans that cost 16,000 Allied lives. He earned the second in 1918, during what would prove to be the final hundred days of the war, by charging into heavy enemy fire to retrieve ammunition for his comrades.

nursing sisters.jpg

More than 2,800 women would serve as nurses in the Canadian military during the First World War.
These trailblazing individuals – commonly referred to as Nursing Sisters – would do vital work helping the sick and wounded.

To help soldiers hurt in the fighting, they often served close to the front lines and the first Canadian Nursing Sisters arrived in France on November 7, 1914.

Pictured are Nursing Sisters posing at the No. 2 Canadian General Hospital in France later in the war.
