No system is perfect and never will be. Security gets tested to find weaknesses to find better ways to make it more effective - thats hardly a "fail". We could have security even tighter but we also have to find a balance between security and freedom and ease of travelling.
The same people who whine and complain about lack of security or security "failing" are the same people who whine and complain because they have to wait in a line at the airport for 20mins and take their shoes off - can't have it both ways.
In this case, security worked. There is a name that is on the no-fly list and they are not letting that name board an aircraft. The unfortunate twist is that a 6 year old shares the same name and now its up to the parents (who admitted they've had problems with the childs name before entering the US) to rectify the problem.

When someone named David,Jonathan or Matthew does something wrong, should every child born in the 80's suddenly have to change their name?

So now we need to check the no fly list before naming our children! What happens when we run out of names.
Maybe we should just tattoo everyone at birth or an implant like we do with pets.
My Wife asked me if I knew what her favorite flower was?
Apparently "Robin Hood All Purpose" was the wrong answer!

The time could very well be coming, possibly not that far in the future.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

No, but when someone named David, Jonathan, or Matthew Jordan Smith does something wrong then there can be an issue if your name, or child's name s David, Jonathan or Matthew Jordan Smith.

True and sadly enough it could and probably would follow you for the rest of your life.

Re: 6-year-old on no fly list
In reality, paying for someone else's wrong doing is not limited to no fly lists.
If a person steals your identity and is fingerprinted for a criminal act everything about you will have been entered into ALL of the public data banks and the only way to disprove that you are NOT the person who stole your identity is to have your fingerprints checked.
Even then your identity will stay on record as an alias of that other person, including in the criminal record data banks.
Police forces accept that a name and date of birth check is NOT always infallible proof of identity as a matter of routine.

Haven't you watched the NFL recently? Just make something up randomly ... LaNobleKnightdaKing Jones.
This comment annoyed me though:
“He’s basically being carded for being Muslim,” Cajee said in a Global interview.
He was carded because his name matched a known terrorist ... if he was carded for being Muslim then so would you have been as well.

The comment is completely false. The youth has not been carded. A person with the same name as the youth has been carded for an identified reason relating to airline security.
