How can you call Canada "prosperous" right now? Our airhead PM just ran a $30 billion deficit!! We've got mega-billions outstanding in debt that we can't pay. That's not "progressive", and it's not "prosperous", that's just bad management.

It's always about punishing people who have more than they do. What a total loser mind-set.

Ok, so move to Romania and see how prosperous they are.

Actually Canada is a very, very prosperous country. If you don't think so, try visiting places like Nepal.

Point blank, the reason we have a deficit right now is .... Harper. He passed out tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations like popcorn and got zero return on it. Zero.

Time to look at the facts. Harper dropped taxes from just over 16% of GDP to 14.4% of GDP, and at the same time increased federal government expenditures a whole bunch: http://www.ey.com/CA/en/Services/Tax/TaxMatters-December2014-Canadian-government-revenue-1984-to-2014http://www.tradingeconomics.com/canada/government-spending

Harper's brilliant plan? Take in less and spend more. Gee whiz. That kinda sounds like the reverse of a good business plan. You will also notice in the numbers that the two areas of revenue that saw the biggest percentage gains under Harper were EI premiums - which hit workers and small business hard, and "other" revenues - yup, "fee for this, fee for that" - the least efficient and most regressive form of taxation.

So now we have to try again after Harper's failed policies. Taxes will have to go up. Get used to it. And much of that increase will be in reversing what Harper messed up when he took a perfectly good balance that Paul Martin had achieved and failed to apply the simplest of axioms "if ain't broke, don't fix it!".

By the way, I suspect, more like a conjecture, that some of the "fee-fees" that Harper was so fond of only return small percentages of net revenue to the government due to the high administrative costs.

At any rate, those of us who can pay more are going to get hit. Fair enough. I have almost always been proud to be a Canadian and don't mind contributing a fair share.

Or better yet, give Trudeau another mandate and then wish we were as prosperous as Romania, after 8 years of idiotic "progressive" tax policy.

$30 billion for the whole of Canada that comprises 10 provinces and 3 territories? snerk.

Yet it's OK for ONE province to rack up $18++ BILLION dollars in debt in 4 years (plus another $9 BILLION planned) and another $100 BILLION in contractual obligations?

Well, there we go. Now we know. Regressive tax fan - tax the poor so the wealthy can have more.

Not exactly a justifiable position ... "take from the poor and give to the rich". The end result is rarely good, just ask Marie Antoinette lol
