Canada has been a two party system for many decades; centre left and centre right. Voters that identify as centre left are fluid and will vote for whichever party they believe can form a center left government which is what we saw in the previous election. The failure of the NDP had little to do with their policies or their leader, and everything to do with eliminating the Conservatives. We saw the same situation in opposition with the Reform/Conservatives in the election previous to that. The unite the left or unite the right movements are the true parties in our two party system.
The NDP may never come to power but that doesn't mean that their policies are not influential in defining that centre left balance, just as the Reform may never come to power but they are influential in defining the degree of right of the center right party.

"Manifesto" is so sexist sounding. They need to change it to "personifesto."
