The City of Mississauga's Recreational Department is looking into this, but denied this stemmed from discrimation. Unfortunately the Toronto Sun (most likely) will not report the outcome as it won't create a sensaulized headline

This is what they approached the mom about, the mom didn't want to comply to the rules, they were told to leave. Mom made big deal and the lifeguards being likely younger kids on summer jobs laughed and had the lady who thinks the rules don't apply to her kicked out.

There was no racism or discrimination, however if you yell discrimination every time you don't get your way someone likes to try to make a story and a dollar off of it until eventually everyone is desensitized to the overreactions that actual cases get ignored.

And that's the problem right? Play the race card every time you don't comply with rules? Sorry, our society is made up of rules. Move to Jordon, Quatar, Morocco or Tunisia if you don't like Canadian rules.

Can you really blame them though for trying? Canada spends hundreds of millions per year on "hurt feelings" committees masquerading as fake "human rights" commissions, all looking for cases like this to immediately award damages and force fake apologies from those who apparently did the offending. This is learned behavior, and it usually works - if you don't get your way, scream RACIST and some PC clod on a government salary will be there to ensure your bullying tactics work. Rules are merely the starting point. The rules may be the product of systemic discrimination. Think of size and height rules that kept capable women from eligibility for police and fire jobs for generations. One has to look deeper than mere "rules".

In this case, the pool sold the mother/daughter a single ticket (presumably). For the deep pool, or? A pretty young kid, did they ask questions? Lots of issues that Sun story doesn't address. Poor journalism, endemic these days, left or right biased.

I think the mom's refusal to get in the pool because there were men and boys is lame. Why was her daughter allowed in by the mother? Why did she come to Canada? I don't think we should be looking at specific-gender time slots in public pools. But I remind forumists that gyms including the one I belong in West Kelowna has a whole section for women only.

The childish behaviour of the lifeguards was probably the catalyst. That was reprehensible of them, and frankly one does hope for a semblance of maturity from someone who is trained and hired to guard lives.

Exactly 14 years ago today, the National Post published an op-ed by Neil Seeman, “Are we all Islamophobes? Not really.” In it Seeman debunked the idea, promoted by Riad Saloojee, then executive director of CAIR.CAN (the Canadian chapter of the Council for American-Islamic Relations, now known as the National Council of Canadian Muslims, or NCCM, without apparent change of mission or affiliations), that “a very well-documented, anti-Muslim hate wave” had swept through Canada.....

In fact, after a minor two-month post-9/11 spike in anti-Muslim incidents, even these sharply diminished. Out of 1,000 hate crimes in 2002, according to police reports from 12 populous Canadian cities, 25 per cent targeted Jews, 17 per cent blacks, 11 per cent Muslims, 10 per cent South Asians and nine per cent LGBT. In 2006, the year following “Presumption of Guilt,” of religiously motivated attacks, a stunning 66 per cent targeted Jews, while just 11 per cent targeted Muslims. Anti-Semitism still maintains a dramatic lead over Islamophobia in hate crimes.

....In 2005 it published results of another survey on Islamophobia, “Presumption of Guilt,” which came into question when a representative from CAIR.CAN testified before the Maher Arar commission of inquiry. In probing by Simon Fothergill, counsel for the attorney general of Canada, it turned out the anonymous, questionnaire-based study’s methodology was to make its questionnaire available on the Internet, effectively allowing people who’d never set foot here to complain. More than this: more than half the respondents were connected to CAIR.CAN and a “good proportion” engaged in Islamic advocacy...

All the more puzzling, then, that the controversial Islamic Social Services Association (ISSA) and NCCM/CAIR.CAN managed to strike up a collaboration with the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC) and attract funding from the Red Cross to produce a guide -

Helping Students Deal with Trauma Related to Geopolitical Violence and Islamophobia.

This guide is troubling in many ways.

First, obviously, there’s the collaboration itself, which lends credibility and respectability to NCCM/CAIR.CAN and ISSA from two prestigious but allegedly neutral bodies, the CHRC and the Red Cross. The CHRC’s involvement is especially awkward as a federal government organ closely linked to a quasi-judicial tribunal (the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal).

...some specialists say NCCM/CAIR.CAN strategically aims to silence its critics through “libel lawfare” — a pattern of lawsuits intended to chill free speech against the group and its brand of Islam.

...If a teaching guide on tolerance is necessary, let it be about tolerance for all minority groups. Let it be evidence-based and a collaboration of racial, religious and other groups. And instead of NCCM/CAIR.CAN, let Muslim input come from the democratic, pluralistic and reform-minded Council for Muslims facing Tomorrow (MFT), one of whose founders, Sohail Raza, responded to my media query on this subject:

“The CHRC and the Red Cross should be -
more concerned about human rights abuse and actual racial discrimination than pandering to a victim ideology and a contrived phrase like ‘Islamophobia’ created to stifle conversation.

MFT is distressed by the activities of certain organizations claiming to represent Muslims while closely linked to the supremacist Muslim Brotherhood. These organizations are part of the problem and not the solution.”

Well said. This ill-conceived, “some are more equal than others” initiative, designed to encourage grievance-collecting in Muslim children and baseless guilt in other Canadian children, should be terminated at once.

About 40 posters were discovered by students at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday, filled with hateful and obscene language telling Muslims to “keep your barbaric ways … in your 7th century homeland.”

While campus security acted quickly to take them down, other posters and similar hate literature were also found later in parking lots and in residential mailboxes just outside of campus in northwest communities.

Under certain sections of the Criminal Code of Canada, inciting hate propaganda against any identifiable group can result in a maximum jail time of five years.
Tuesday’s posters mark the second time in two weeks that hateful literature was distributed on a university campus in Alberta.
On Sept. 19, 12 posters were found at the University of Alberta featuring a picture of a Sikh man, profanity about turbans and a statement calling on people from developing nations’ cultures to leave Canada.

I hope the perp(s) are found. University is tough enough without this stupidity.

Can you imagine if the picture was one white person and the rest were Muslims? Being a minority doesn't mean one is going to be less racist but again, the article is assuming it's only whites who are racist, which is racist in itself.
