Drunk Pilots

Post by Barney Google »

United Airlines pilots suspected of being drunk arrested in Glasgow
Flight to New Jersey delayed 10 hours while the airline sought replacement pilots

"Police and airline officials say two United Airlines pilots have been arrested for suspected intoxication before they were to fly 141 passengers from Scotland to the United States.

United Airlines officials have confirmed Saturday's arrest of the pilots, aged 45 and 35, at Glasgow Airport. The Police Service of Scotland says both men are expected to be arraigned Monday at a court in Paisley, a Glasgow suburb, to face charges connected to Britain's transport safety laws."...

I've always been somewhat of a trepidatious flyer - stories like these don't help.

Maybe it's just a Glasgow thing...

The pilots in both cases should suffer sever consequences and never fly again. As far as I am concerned they should also take away their drivers licenses for 5 years. I don't care if they are human or not when all those lives are in danger.
Consider how hard it is to change yourself and you'll understand what little chance you have of changing others.

That's just booze.
I wonder how many are poppin pills etc.
Too bad there isn't an affordable way to have more and regular drug testing, especially for jobs where impairment can adversely effect many.

Happens far too often, having said that - I can't recall there being a crash, at least in the Western World, involving drunk pilots at the controls of a commercial airliner.

As the rule goes, 8 hours from bottle to throttle.

I've never heard of it, or at least if I did it didn't stick. Fell outy the other ear. Not likely though. That kind of news usually bounces around awhile before falling out.

I hope it's not a new thing...this idea that having one or two wobblies before flying.
I also hope that past stats are not skewed to hide a dirty truth we've overlooked.

I prefer to drive anywhere I need to go. I like driving across Canada. It is never less than an adventure.
