Aggrevated assault - 14 years maximum

Attempted murder -
Minimum 0, 4, 5 or 7 years in jail
Maximum life

Could this have been an attempted muder by a family member awaiting inheritance?

The police stated the attacker ambushed the elderly woman at random and she was a complete stranger.
Truths can be backed up by facts - do you have any?
