The federal Liberals are falling short of their promise to create thousands of green jobs for young Canadians.

On the campaign trail just over one year ago, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed to create 5,000 green jobs for young Canadians annually, with thousands slated to be guides and interpreters at Parks Canada.

The pledge was part of a larger strategy to give young workers more opportunities to earn money and to combat youth unemployment rates that were double the national average.

Despite pouring millions into the federal youth employment strategy in their first budget, figures provided from Parks Canada show the agency employed 1,636 students this past summer, an increase of 435 over the students employed during summer 2015 — but only one-third of the total promised by Trudeau.

how the hell is working in a park considered a "green job"? What a stupid term. How about just calling this program "national welfare program for kids" or "government will pay your kid to stand in a park this summer doing nothing rather than sitting on your sofa playing video games".

Whining about to get louder. The only way to reduce pumping carbon into the atmosphere is to raise the price. Simple as that. Unless you still believe that climate change is a hoax, and there might still be a few diehard deniers who might also believe that the earth is flat, you should be on board with the tax.

It's supply and demand economics at it's basic. We only have one atmosphere and it hasn't had this much carbon in it for how long? Push the price of carbon ever higher and the demand will fall off. That 6,000 pound diesel truck? It's a dinosaur.

See, this is the bizarre thing. No, it's not the only way. Other than making a few people wealthy at the expense of the middle classes, it'll have its greatest effect when it has bankrupted enough ordinary people and small to medium businesses. But even then it's impossible to say if all these bankrupted people will actually pump less carbon into the atmosphere, because you don't know what they're going to do instead. Look at the regions that have fired up old plants to augment the "green" alternatives, because they took nuclear offline.

Meanwhile, there are major pollution problems not entailing fossil fuels, and those are being glossed over and ignored.

Why is it so much easier to toss out the usual nonsense like "flat earth" and "6,000 pound diesel truck" than it is to seriously think about how a carbon tax on fossil fuels affects ordinary people, every day, with no net benefit to the environment?

And what the heck does this have to do with jobs in parks?

Harper should have said that he would run a $10 billion deficit and then gone ahead and ran a $30 billion deficit. Apparently if you do that people clap and cheer for some reason. I haven't figured out yet why that is.
